    Hi All,

I was just quoted €480 (vat inclusive) to have an alternator replaced on my 2003 C180 Mercedes.

    Seems like crazy money.

Any thoughts on what this job should actually cost?

Parts for mercs are expensive. Sounds about right.

Yep sounds fair enough for a new one.

Alternatively you could search around the scrappies or online for a car being broken, it's not a difficult job to replace it yourself.

I doubt it is new. Reconditioned plus fitting will cost that.

Edit : Reconditioned is as good as new anyway.

Ya I wouldn’t be complaining about that price. I do a lot of mercs and it seems about right it is a Mercedes at the end of the day. What model and year and I’ll give u a rough idea of what’s involved.

Sorry only seen there ya c180 so it’s the compressor engine. Not a bad job to do when you have done a few but the price seems in and around right.

Ye could have a look on Opeloils.co.uk for a price to compare. Could ye DIY to reduce the cost? I got a new alternator from them with a great price a few months ago.

It’s not actually beyond the relems of possiblity. In fact if they were confident enough I’d go through a complete step by step for them
