    Hi,

    I am trying to figure out this W-8BEN form to fill out and I have no clue what to out at section 9.

    9. Special rates and conditions (if applicable—see instructions): The beneficial owner is claiming the provisions of Article

    of the treaty identified on line 9 above to claim a

    % rate of withholding on (specify type of income):

    Explain the reasons the beneficial owner meets the terms of the treaty article:


    Any help would be great.

    Ring up the brokerage, they’ll run through it with you and help you submit online. You don’t have to fill in a lot of it.

    You only need to complete that section if you believe you are entitled to and are claiming a special reduction of taxes on certain types of US income. If you're having to ask on After Hours, you cant and shouldn't complete it.

    Thanks, so if your just a normal Joe there is no need to fill it out I am guessing?

    Well that depends. Assuming you avoid any countries with an extradition treaty with the US you may be OK......
