Spare a thought for those living on offshore islands around the coast who have to vote today, they should take a court case over it, treated like 2nd class citizens. Plenty of technological options to get their counted votes to the mainland if bad weather prevented them being sent the day after polling.

    Dear Iona institute,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your literature that you continue to shove through my door despite the no junk mail sign, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the repealing of the 8th amendment for example, I simply remind him that the Bible implies in genesis that the soul is created at conception and termination equates to murder.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

    a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

    b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

    c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

    d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Scott’s but not Welsh. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Welsh people?

    e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

    f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?

    g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

    h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27. How should they die?

    i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

    j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev 24:10-16) Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

He really did clinch it for a Yes vote, what an utter clown. Can only imagine the Yes Canvassers were just wishing such a clanger was dropped earlier in the campaign, as there would be a lot less undecided.

I never saw Steen debate before but she seemed hesitant from the off and lacked fluency. She was poor based on what I heard about her. To her small credit Kenny did become a flustered wreck in his determination to come across as a firm moderator and in doing so I do feel he was a bit heavy handed with her. However she was so poor it didn't really make a difference.

Less said about said other clown the better.

I’d say Ronan Mullen is currently being bounced off every wall of whatever cave he lives in. It’ll be a long time before he lives that down.

On Maria Steen, while I don’t like her, she does normally hold her own in debates much better than that. She did seem frazzled but I’d put that down largely to having to debate alongside Mullen.

To be fair, there has been No side clangers and there was bound to be more and before the blackout, there will probably be more.

The No side are committing clangers because their backs are firmly to the wall. It is a rearguard action now with attempts to smear anyone on the Yes side, including those forced from the country to excercise choice.

The No debaters have helped the yes side more than any yes debaters :pac:

Ronan Mullen let the mask slip on how many people feel, but don't have the balls to state openly. I usually think Colm O'Gorman debates very well, but I thought he was flustered and emotional last night

Obstruction or interfering with voters is an offence under the electoral act 92.
There should be a Garda on duty at every polling station.
I can't see this happening for too long if they try it!

have they nothing better to do?

I am not understanding the follow up tweet. They seem to be suggesting that the "wording" was wrong? I would have thought the issue is not with the wording but with the idea that they as members of the public can, or should, stop other members of the public in order to "ID" them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Sounds very illegal just to advertise for it. Nothing official about emailing admin@loveboth.ie, nothing legal about that organization organizing people to check IDs. This should really be followed up with charges.

They're a gas lot altogether. Polling clerks and observers? Polling clerks are already assigned and I hope anyone, unofficial, standing around 'observing' is removed swiftly from the polling station. Would assume that would put the secrecy of votes at risk and is not allowed.

And sure if they do the below, their vote will be void. Is this a parody account?

Can you get away with a pro life shirt on this referendum?

I mean I hope they keep this up, will certainly rock the vote - not in their favor.

The Love Both Drogheda Twitter feed is worth a look. Apparently (according to the account itswlf) abortions are homophobic as women will abort their gay babies.

    Not even joking!

    Nonsense pure crap.

ONE just ONE lad said something along those lines.

Talk about tarring them all with one brush!.

There was a referendum on removing suicide as a reason for abortion, the 2013 act got a lot of **** for it as well iirc.

Dont think that was all the one person.

Observers are allowed, and they can, for example question the eligibility of a voter to the official clerk. Observers don't stand looking over your shoulder at you marking your X, they normally sit quietly in the station looking quite bored

Observers from both parties are there to endure confidence in the system.

Polling stations are pretty official, anyone other than the properly appointed staff start looking for IDs they would be removed fairly quickly.

Getting themselves kicked out is likely the intention.

Thing is, id checks are done by the polling officials. Not the observers.

Observers can request the official to carry out in ID check. They don't have to comply with the request, but they generally do in my (limited) experience

According to the advertisement however, you’d think it was the love both security doing it

The reaction to it is quite hysterical though

They're taking about bringing their own security to a polling station ffs.

Or 4K women who we turned our back on during a distressing, traumatic time. Whose burden we made bigger for no good reason.
Depends on how you look at it.

The number will be what it will be. Most women, even in unplanned pregnancies, keep their babies. We need to support those who can’t, regardless of their reasons.
Her body, her life, her choice, she knows best. Not me.

You just used the full arsenal of buzz words there as a response.

In reality your response was simply "the number will be what it will be".

I can't get behind that and that's why I'm voting no.

Ah that's not fair. It's all about perspective. 4k women in crisis is a lot that we could be offering a little bit of comfort to in that crisis

I find it hilarious that apparently we’re in hysterics because it was pointed out to them that they were advertising interfering with an official vote...

Can you imagine the reaction if that teeet had of come from the yes side?

The tweet actually said that the "security" themselves would do the checks. The sentence was "You need to check IDs".
