If you stand in people's way for no other reason than to hinder their progress then pretty much yeah, there's plenty wrong with that. If somebody deliberately blocked you in the street you'd say "fair enough" and wait for them to get tired of it, then not report it? Sure.
Unless you're claiming he was making a citizens arrest... please don't...

Nah, he was being a tool but I’m just wondering if what he was doing was anything other than being a nuisance.

The Ganley fella could have just moved onto the next pole, and it was Ganley that made it a physical interaction by shoving the ladder into the yanks face.

If an assault did take place it was Ganley who assaulted the American.

This is all moot anyway as it was obviously staged and little more than an attempt to get the 90% of our posters in Dublin.... lie to go viral.

So the Yes side physically prevent the No side from campaigning. Glad we've sorted that out.

You should really look at the video again without the filter of your prejudices.

Even as a supporter of UK style abortion, I have to say this is a worthless argument. If somebody thinks something is bad, why on earth would they want other people to have the option to do it at will?

Well that's an utterly vacuous argument.
No, you look at it without your bias.

Vincent Browne coming out for a yes vote.
    I have always liked him.

Ganley had no more right to be in that particular place than beardy guy. Ganley decided him to assault him with his ladder. If somebody stops in the street in front of me and i deliberately keep on walking until i hit him then i have assaulted him. This is pretty clear to the non-prejudiced.

Ah right, free speech... as long as it's in the fashion I allow. Classy.
I'm sure if he moved to the next pole Yankee boy would never have just happened to be at that pole too minding his own business waiting to be "assaulted".

beardy guy was being a prick. No question. That doesnt excuse ganley assaulting him.

So if somebody blocks you that is OK? That was the question I asked you. Wouldn't want to wander off answering your own questions now, would you?
Is it OK to physically obstruct campaigners or not?

No it is not ok. But it doesnt give me the right to walk through him.

I don't want to bomb old folks homes, but why would I want to impose that morality on everybody? They should be free to choose without my moralising interfering!

Sorry to go full hyperbole, but that's exactly the argument you're making.

Anecdotally I’ve met loads of no voters lately. I’m not saying they will win but I think the polls are underestimating the no vote.

So thus far we have actual evidence of physical obstruction by:
    Yes side: 1
    No side: 0

I'm going to leave this here without a lot of comment. I think it is relevant to the current debate. I could be wrong.

Mods: If I'm overstepping the bounds here I apologise and will happily take this elsewhere.

The American was just exercising his right to free speech as well. Also, I’m not aware of any loitering laws in or around Galway City so what was Yankee Boy doing wrong?

An immovable object meets an unstoppable force if you will.

You are right that Yankee Boy could have followed Ganley but that doesn’t give Ganley a right to assault Yankee Boy.

And having an abortion is a crime now too.
Don't see what's confusing about that for you?

    On the flip side.

    Yes side: 0
    No side: 1

I think there are more important things to discuss than this stupid bloody video BTW.

Physically blocking people campaigning is free speech now? Just so we're clear here, if an platoon of Neo-Nazis blocked a Yes march you'd be 100% backing their right to "free speech"?

    You missed the point completely.
It’s about being selfless enough to realise that even though it’s not a choice you’d make yourself, other people may feel differently, and affording them that freedom.

Plenty of Yes voters I’ve spoken to don’t personally agree with abortion, but the realise it’s selfish to force their morality on other people.
    That’s what it’s about.

Just looked at the video. Neither side comes out well but Ganley did push the ladder at the other guy so he got what he deserved.

Then again. The conspiracy theorists in me wonders if this was a setup with one of the yankie evangelists over "helping" the antis.

Nope, blocking people going about their business means you are the one breaking the law. You cannot enforce your illegality by pushing people over when you block their passage.

It is a crime in Ireland yes. Why did you automatically assume we were talking about the law in a different country? You might point that out in advance next time instead of just parachuting that randomness into a discussion?
Interesting reference to my join date and post count... the fact you think that strengthens your case somehow says more about you than me to be honest.
