Easier way to fill an oil tank??

    Hi,

    I'm currently filling my oil tank by using 2 25ltr barrells, climbing a small ladders and pouring in.

    Is there an easier method??

    Any help/advise would be great!

    Aldi/Lidl sell them from time to time. One end of a hose in the drum,the other in the tank,attach drill, pull the trigger and viola it pumps the kerosene into the tank.

    Why ? Is it cheaper this way . Where you getting the oil from.

    I'm intrigued now.

    Easiest method would actually be a pump

    Cut a 5l water bottle in half for a funnel. Hold the 25l drum with the opening at the top, this reduces glugging due to trapped air. Or you can get a bit of wide-bore hose and siphon it.

    Oil wholesalers who sell by the container might sell them .... I know the one local to me does.

    Our local Agri store has a 12v pump for pumping diesel.

    Clips to attach to car battery.

    Add a length of hose and the pump drops down into the diesel.

    Think it was maybe €20

    Might get one myself for filling tractors.

    Kerosene isn't easily flammable unlike petrol. Using that type of pump powered by a drill would be fine.

    Where do you get these barrels of kerosene? Be careful you ain't buying what's been pilfered from someone else's oil tank!! :)

    Great point.
    Lots of household tanks have dirt in them and it would stop you burner very quickly needing a service call.

    Fills much faster if you place the barrell at a higher level than the taank, I leave mine on top of the tank.


    As above make sure that you are buying from a reputable source.

    I have seen this is quite a few fuel suppliers. It works out more expensive in the long run, but very convenient if you want a small quantity to tide you over. Pay a deposit for the plastic drum, then retur/refill as needed.

    If topping up tank, leave the oil to settle for an hour or so to let sediment in tank settle to the bottom.

    Grand, but surely anyone can also see that it's also a handy way for thieves to sell on their stock. In a way, I suppose you could look on it as a transfer of wealth ;)
