I used to be a big top gear fan but I have to say I really don't like Clarkson in this especially the groan worthy dad jokes.

ITV must be delighted with the calibre of contestants, not having to pay out much.

You feel they'll need at least 1 high winner though, least the 125 K mark..

I'd say 64k will be the highest.
The standard of contestants is appalling.
I'm hoping Clarkson gets the permanent gig if it's greenlit.

If this does turn out to be a one off anniversary gig does anyone have any ideas what will happen to the last contestant on the last day? .... They could be doing quite well with 32 grand and 3 lifelines left and look promising to go onto a million or néar it but the fog horn could go off and the end of the show! Cut short in their prime. I can't remember what happened on the original shows what happened with the last contestants when the show used to end for the season, anyone remember what happened?

God the reasoning before every question is irritating

One of the reasons why I stopped watching Eggheads a few years ago. It became a cliché that the contestants felt compelled, even when they know the answer, to explain every little detail about each option and why they were or weren't choosing it. Just answer the fucking question.

The ask the host thing with this series, Clarkson really needs to stop misleading the contestants with his ramblings if he doesn't know the answer. He's influenced two people so far that has resulted in a lot of lost money. I think the way that lifeline should work is if the contestant doesn't know the answer, but Clarkson does and he interjects that he knows, the contestant agrees to use it, Clarkson gives his answer and uses the lifeline. But only up to a certain amount of money, no more than say... 64k.

After watching a few episodes it seems to me that the new rules add little to the show. The "ask the host" is a strange one as the presenter is being put on the spot and is unlikely to recommend an answer unless certain. Maybe it's included for the squirm value. And setting the second safety net isn't really adding that much. So someone can set it at 16K instead of 32K.

I agree, If Jeremy clearly doesn't know the answer he should be less rambling and more concise, similar to phoning a friend.
A reasonable "... I think it might be B, because of xyz, but other than that, I don't know the answer."
Or a clear, "..sorry, I have no idea and I don't want to influence or mislead you"
    Then leave it at that.

Yeah I haven't warmed to the new safety net feature. I suppose in theory it would enable those on higher amounts (and may set a higher safety net) to gamble more freely with less to lose. There's also the tension surrounding when exactly will they set the safety net as they climb the ladder

However in this new edition I can't see too many getting into the real high numbers

On celeb editions they used to just finish up with what they were on when the 'hooter' went off

For this I'm sure they could edit it accordingly to squeeze it all into one hour. Or do an extended special

I see they make a point of saying that they send out a production assistant to the phone a friend's house so that there is no cheating. I havnt seen a whole show but potentially there are a lot of combinations of who could be phone a friend. Is the show edited so that whoever wins from the group, the next part of the show is filmed at a different time? they hardly have 20 or 30 staff sitting in people's houses ?

Somebody mentioned that you are allowed 2 phone a friends - so that's 12 staff members.. Sounds like they do have them there...

It's all prerecorded, so the editors can make sure it fits the time slot.

    This too shall pass.

I assume they now screen the phone a friends as well

I know in the early days there were syndicates set up and quiz experts offered to be a phone-a-friend in return for a portion of the winnings

Yeah. I agree it is pricey. Amazon UK have it at £40. Yikes.

They don't, it's exclusive to Smyths. It's a third party seller who's buying it for £25 in Smyths and selling it on their Amazon store for £40.

Only easy if you know the answer, do you not know this?

One question can wipe out all lifelines and still not have an answer, theirs a portrait pic most nights, feck all would know them.

I would have got the last one right about the sun but guessed right on the ones before that.

The easy ones seem harder sometimes.
