Thanks for all your help guys, I'm up and running on pixelexperience.

Using titanium made it all very easy to get everything up and going.

So far all looks good. Everything is smooth and responsive. Only downside so far is that the fingerprint sensor no longer works for taking photos, at least using the default camera, will try others later.

Unfortunately, that is an in built feature of MIUI roms.

Have not tried it myself, you can get apps to make it work. Some paid!

A bit of googling found the below, there may be other alternatives.

[XDA] Finger Snap - Fingerprint camera : Take photos using fingerprint sensor

[Play] Finger Snap - Fingerprint camera ~~~ €0.59

I found this article which explains how to transfer messages, call logs and more using Titanium. I used google drive to import/export the xml files.

Valid device, but not a true successor to Redmi Note 4.

Don't know much about that version and there is not much discussion about it, so not a popular device.

well apparently its on its way from China and I should have it in a week. Ill let you all know what I think of it when it arrives. I ordered 64 GB with Nillkin Glass, fingerprint sensor etc . A load of stuff that came in around 135 euro . I'll let you know if I get stung at customs for any taxes.

I received my Xiaomi Redmi Note 5a in the post exactly one week ago. Before that it was held up in Customs.

Customs charged me approx 32 euro VAT plus a 10 euro An Post handling Charge. So thats 42 euro and 80 or so cents on top of a original price of about 140 euro. Prices are approximate as I'm not going to quibble about a few cents either way.

The An Post charge on top seemed very cheeky as its their job to deliver it anyway . Next time I will pay DHL 20 euro and get the phone in a few days instead of waiting an extra month for An Post to decide they feel arsed to finally deliver it.

I highly recommend buying this phone by the way. I'm over the moon with it. Its amazing. Its fantastic . It works like a dream. I wouldnt even be able to get a second hand phone approaching this quality for this price even with taxes included.

It picked up the 4G signal of Virgin Mobile immediately by the way. There were no instructions on the Virgin Website for setting its data but I just copied its advice for a samsung and it worked.

I bought Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X. Best phone ever, specially for the price!

Where can I get in Dublin?

Could you send me the website you bought it from please and will it be okay for me to continue to use my 48 network sim and the 3g?

Anyone can reccomend me a site which has Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 International 4GB Ram in blue Green or black, if thats possible

My Note 4 has started playing the ringtone when there is no incoming call - even worse it's almost impossible to stop. Anyone else had this ?

I have discovered that certain apps take over the phone ringtone & use it instead of the one designated to the app

My note 4 battery has really started to degrade. The theory of not charging the phone fully and not letting it go to low is a complete myth imo because I thought I minded mine like a baby

How old is your phone now? 8 Months going by your other posts?

What has changed lately, your use patterns, upgraded to buggy rom, or miss behaving newly installed rogue app?

If your still using MIUI, make sure that is not a vendor/reseller rom?

Test for rogue apps with Wakelock Dector app or check your estimated battery capacity with Accubattery App (needs a week(/more) of powered on charge cycles to get an estimate.) <<< As another poster suggested above.

    Thanks for detailed reply.
Yes its just over 8 months old, lately I deleted the fb app and downloaded snapchat at the same time so maybe that app could be miss behaving. Charged it this evening and it is gone very slow to charge too, about 20% an hour and I have all apps closed and data off etc as always while charging. I also noticed that it sometimes stops charging at 80% and im wondering is this linked to not charging it fully as that's usually when I'd unplug the phone. I was using a power bank a bit this week and maybe that had an effect on it as, just a thought.

Keep Snapchat from Draining Battery Life & Sucking Up Your Data on Android

Anyone else having alot of battery drain from Snapchat? (more in comments)

^^^ Top 2 google results for "snapchat battery drain android"

Also it might be worth re-calibrating your battery, let it drain till switches off and then charge fully on a mains charger (while the phone is off).
^^^ I know some people say re-calibrating a modern battery shouldn't be required, but in your case it might help.

Is your powerbank a reliable brand, if it is, then shouldn't have an adverse effect on your phone.

I bought mine from geekbuying. If you order from the spanish, german or italian warehouse, you won't be stung for customs and delivery is quicker.

Here's an example of the black version but if you look around the site you'll find cheaper versions from those warehouses.

thanks mate, I noitced that on another site they only had the gold. not used to buying phones online, I see a lot of complaints about the Note5, smaller battery, same cpu, same storage and ram. I guess I'd be better of with the note4

The Note4 is brilliant. My gf has one and gets brilliant battery life from it. Im undecided to get one or wait on the Redmi Note 5 pro (when they release the global version).

note 5 pro is only available India right now correct?

I'm getting really confused with Note 5a, Note 5 pro, Note 5 plus Note 5...

Yes it is for now - Global version due to be announced tomorrow (18/4)- I don't want to clog up this thread, More discussion about it here. https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057852692
Definitely confusing model numbers (discussed in thread)

The battery life is crazy. I charge mine around twice a week but I wouldn't be a heavy user. The other features, processor, camera, screen are all pretty decent too, especially for the price. The only big thing that it lacks is NFC.

+1. My wife moved form an iPhone that she charging every day and was only getting about half a day out of it. Now on Note4 and keeps forgetting to charge it as it takes days to run down. Amazing phones.

Iphone 9 has a 2050 mAh battery compared to the Note 4 4100 mAh , really impressive
800euro for a phone and it has such a bad battery really strange

It's strange in general. I haven't done any market research but I would be willing to bet that most people would trade longer battery life for a slightly thicker phone.

Another trend that I dislike is the glued in batteries. I don't know which consumers demanded that the batteries be irreplaceable but I guess that if you provide a small battery that's irreplaceable, then the whole phone need replacing quickly enough.

The note 4 battery is tricky to replace but it should last a couple of years since it doesn't need to be charged so often.

Groan... what's the story with getting broken screen fixed? Asked 2 Chinese shops and they gave that look that just says "no".
It's the honorbuy global version for India.
Watched videos and youtube and brain surgery looks easier.

Having to completely dissemble the phone, to replace the screen is not an easy task and something you should only try if you have a good set of precision tools.

You didn't say where your located, but some dedicated repair shops might be able to replace it for you, you may have to source the part yourself.

Someone here says they got an Mi 5 screen replaced done.

You can get the part here for €40.15 + approx €5 for shipping
You would also need to source an adhesive layer to glue on the new screen.

If you factor in about approx maximum €30 for repair costs. You would probably better of getting another phone. Under €160 for RN4, if you can still get them.

You could probably get cheaper parts of aliexpress but the quality might not be as good.

Or the Redmi Note 5 [WHYRED][Global] is starting to be sold now, worth a look.

Buy the screen from Alliexpress, most small Chinese phone outfits will it it for €30. Simples.
