Cillian has been confirmed as captain for the championship.

What do ye make of that appointment? I see some very negative comments from our own fans towards it.
As for his scoring record and ability it can't be questioned.

I'm not a fan of some of his off the ball antics, I think that doesn't endear him to many. But every county has it.

I'd have liked to see it go to someone else this year but only because I think being Captain, Freetaker and "Marquee Forward" is a lot to burden for young but experienced shoulders. It would allow him to concentrate on the football side only. As for his "black arts stuff" as you said every team has a player or 2 who dices with what's acceptable so it doesn't bother me.

Spotted that too. I can see why people might want a change but anyone on the outside won't really have a clue about the internal dynamic.

The team is packed with leaders, any good team will be, especially one as experienced as ours. I wouldn't be beating anyone up over it tbh.

Maybe in a few years when we lose a lot of the older guys it might come into focus more. But that said, I think it's a role that is slightly over hyped.

Didn't Kerry give it to a player from the County Champions until recently? Regardless of "caotaincy material"? Leaders will lead whether captain or not.

Yeah "Captain" is only a title on paper really. The squad has no shortage of actual leaders

Rugby Union is the only team sport where its really actually relevant tbh

Cricket maybe? If we're calling it a sport.

Could be right on that. Kerry usually give it to the county champions indeed.

But choosing the right side is vital in the coin toss. Only a few chosen at birth have that ability.

Any word on the sandpit? Assume with the bit of sun we might have grass now among the sand dunes?

I get the impression the captaincy is a role that Cillian truly cherishes.I'd have a preference for an alternative as I believe it would be to the betterment of his form.

It's probable that the value of the role is overstated and there are ample leaders in that team to share whatever burden attaches to it.

Anyway Section 102 Row S,quite close to the Bacon factory end.:(

I'd nearly be inclined to buy a second ticket and if the weather is decent and wander over to the Mac Hale road side and grab a seat closer to the half way line.

Not sure how it would go down with the mates.

Given that ciallian missed 2frees that effectively cost mayo 2 all Ireland’s I wouldn’t be appointing him captain

Head like a sieve.I saw it last night but only just remembered.

Under 17s are out against Leitrim tonight.

    Juniors were playing at 18.30.

    Mayo 2-15 Roscommon 1-17

Lest we forget the ladies hopefully can put one over Dublin on Sunday in Parnell Park.

They impressed me greatly in their contest pre our league game against Dublin this year.

Just ran out of steam in the second half.

I know this has been over before. But I really don't think it's fair to pin both losses on those missed kicks. There's any amount of small margins throughout the games that gave up an inch here and there that could have won it without those kicks.
What About the point that he scored to level the game in the 2016 first final?

He played a few seasons with Achill. One of them was the year that John Maughan was training Achill and they went all the way to a Junior connacht final. Sean Boylan was on the sideline with John Maughan, albeit shouting for the same team.

Apparently won by 1 point, scored 1-1 in injury time, thanks to Matthew Flanagan being deployed as a sweeper??. Info from Ahrefcomeon twitter feed.

Annoyed I forgot to pop up.

    Checked out that twitter feed,cheers.

    Crazy stuff.:D

Always rated Matthew Flanagan.I've long thought he might be a future keeper for the senior team.

He's a good forward as well but he's back playing in goal with Balla this year, he needs to be playing there if he wants to make the breakthrough to the senior panel. Definitely one for the future.
