It was a generic top-down shooter like Ikari Warriors but I think the sprites were smaller. One of the bosses was a submarine that used to destroy parts of the platform you were standing on, another was a huge attack helicopter, it wasnt Mercs but it was very similar...

It was an arcade game around the time of Sunset Warriors/Shinobi etc...

No none of those, not side scrolling like Midnight resistance, more side scrolling the way Mercs type games occasionally let you run to the side, if you know what I mean? There was a swamp level where you could duck underwater and knife enemies aswell, or maybe the enemies used to duck underwater and try to knife you...

Does the submarine destroying the terrain you were standing on at the bottom of the screen not remind anyone of anything? O being able to duck down in the swamp?

The submarine and attack helicopter blowing up parts of the platform you're standing on sounds like one of the Metal Slug games to me.

I have an arcade PCB that's similar to Mercs in the attic that might be it and I can't for the live of me remember the name of the game

Edit: Desert Assault or also known as Thunder Zone.

Yeah to clarify its not Midnight Resistance style side scrolling Im referring to, its more like Mercs/Ikari Warrior style combat but at some points you'd be moving to the right instead of upwards, I think this is the worst case of having the name of anything on the tip of my tongue Ive ever experienced :mad:

Its definitely not a Metal Slug.

EDIT: Not Thunder Zone either (although trying to remember where I played that beore is annoying me now, I think it was in Leisureland in Salthill years ago.)

Oh wow its a lot like Bloody Wolf but thats not it, I thought it was for a second when I saw the water level.
