Travelling to the UK soon an will be using Google maps. Have downloaded offline maps but will be using data online maps.

I will be driving in Welsh valleys and I expect to loose signal.

If I do does Google maps keep going and reverts to offline just not with updates etc.

Have not used Google maps on long journeys so just wondering?

Google maps will work fine if the maps have been downloaded in advance even if you turn off the data. You won't have traffic information or travel time by time of day, but for touring this is not important.

Downloading relevant Google maps while on high speed wifi before you go is key advice for any destination.

Download "Here we go" app (used to be Nokia maps).
Then download your maps in the app.
You can set it to use navigation offline.
    All you need is GPS.

You'll be surprised how good it is.

Have it on my phone ages but never used it. Might try it as you can download countries rather than areas

If you get the directions with Google maps while on WiFi it will ask if you want to download the route, so that you still have the map if you lose signal along the way.

Google maps if you have a signal, here maps if you're out of coverage.

Forgot to mention using Android Auto on the car can't get Mirror link to work so only compatible maps are google and Waze

Travelling around the UK and we know our routes so will just use Hotel Wifi to download the routes when we can. Its just if we detour along the way etc. Enough date of 6gb to cover us online and can top up when over there if we run close to it.

Have not used Waze either its just that I can imagine in the Welsh valleys signal wont be great so will be offline at times but will have route in phone when boat docks in Wales
