He actually stands up in the saddle as he looks behind him.

The poor horse thought his race was finished when the jockey stood up and that he didn't have to jump another fence and that's why he ran out to the side of the next fence.
I'm Monty Roberts and that's my masterclass. ;)

I'd say it's more likely that Townsend pulled slightly on the right rein as he looked back & then couldn't get him straightened up, tried to push him into the corner of the jump instead and horse decided .....'Fcuk that!'
Odd thing is that when it's seen from the front, jockey never tries to straighten him!

Will someone get an interview from the horse? :)

Either way the jockey messed up.

Theres a cameraman standing outside the wings of the last fence on the track. The horse got spooked at the same time as Townend was checking to see if anyone was coming up the inside of him and the horse jinked accross the course as far as away as possible from the cameramans lens.
    Jockey got 21days ban

What!!. That's a great calf. Reminds me of the old days when we used to buy all Friesian calves.

If you think you've had a bad day, just imagine the bollocking Townsend is going to get off Mullins for looking over his shoulder and causing the horse to run out :D

Well it appears Paul did it on purpose because he thought he heard a call that the last fence wasn't to be jumped.

So no mistake of a pull on the right rein by accident or horse thinking he was finished the race or horse spooked by a photographer.

    In todays IFJ
Some interesting changes in the New CAP.

Penalising farmers with off farm income,
    Capping payments at €60000.
Helping small and medium sized farms.
    Finally a fairer CAP

As that reform gathers momentum, it will deserve a thread of its own.

There was a lot if talk about changes to the CAP the last time it was reformed but when push came to shove at the end very little changed, just more cuts.
It wouldnt surprise me if the same thing happened again. The journal will print any aul shyte to get people to buy it.

Big Phil seems to have quashed that particular story pretty quick:
