What is the problem with people bringing their own parts? Assuming they brought the right ones is it not saving you the hassle of getting the new parts?

Most garages will not fit parts supplied by the customer for good reason imo.
what happens when there's a problem after fitting supplied parts that turn out to be faulty. The garage will have to be paid twice as it's not their fault because they didn't supply the parts in the first place. Plus some customers will supply the cheapest rubbish they can find online.
If the garage supplies the parts they will stand over any warranty so much less hassle.
I'v often heard this question answered by asking....

Would you go in to McDonalds and hand them a spud and ask them to make you a bag of chips.

I don't care if they bring their own parts dealership parts departments bend you over on costs. I charge 1/2 the shops hourly labor rate which is $115 US an hour. I recondition one car a year and resale pays for vacations. Guess I'll need to restore two to visit the Emerald Isle.

I left the trade completely 3 years ago. I had gotten to master tech level certification yet was totally sick of the hardship, thanklessnes and crap pay. I work as a field service engineer now with a company van, warm work environment and no physical stress on the body.

My advice to you is if you want to change then now is the time to do it. You only get so many opportunities in life to make a change and as you get older that window shrinks.

    It's your life

try Plastering, has to be the worst job ,always in wet cold conditions, since the Tiger died no money in it at all. Stay on the Spanners , have a look for another garage.

Left the plastering trade myself in 2010 after eight years mainly due to the downturn and ended up in a factory job for many years in a grand cushy role, have considered going back to plastering but the thoughts of the cold and wet always turn me off, the fact its a tough job physically at times but more so I found it a thankless job in terms of respect.

I have heard the money is back in it because they cant get enough lads so its tempting, is that not true "decky1" ??

Governments and the leftwing are all responsible for this with global warming lies and Car manufacturers are really ruining cars with all this eco-****e.

Yeah, those 97% of scientists must be wrong. Lets hear more of your theories. Do you supply tin foil hats or should I get my own?

Completely true: even more so in the UK.
Min rate for a plumber onsite now is €26+ an hour.

Which is why building is moving offsite: at least that way if you want to be a plasterer/plumber etc, you'll be working indoors.

Lots of trade guys gone from sites into factories in the last decade and they're not going back, ours included.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Indeed, have been offered €21 an hour here in Ireland, good money but how long will it last is another worry with the building game...
