I enjoyed the Arsenal chat yesterday, but I thought they went overboard with the audio clips from Arsenal Fan TV. It's funny in small doses, but they seemed to be shoehorning them in every twenty seconds. It got old fast.

I think Mark puts in 1 perfectly timed one that gets a laugh then goes a bit crazy with them.

I'm pretty sure it's Simon that does the hot keys. They do go a bit overboard sometimes with them. I haven't listened to the Wenger one yet.

I'd say there's a lot of "Arsenal Football Club blood" and "SPINELESS" in it.

Sinead O'Carroll was the one on about the Winter Olympics, someone asked. Same person as did the consent episode with Richie Sadlier.

Andrew Mangan does Arseblog, someone asked that too.

There was some bollocks talked on the Wenger pod by everyone except arseblog.

Yeah, I went back and listened to the second half to be sure I wasn't missing out on something useful or insightful and the only thing that I got excited about was her ridiculous proposition that you don't say anything in private you would not say in public, I couldn't believe my ears. Nobody, NOBODY communicates in such a way that it would be appropriate for public consumption at any time. They were very deferential to her, making token efforts but not kicking that firmly to touch, as a silly, unrealistic ideal.

I got round to listening on Friday.

She should set a precedent and release all of her private messages to the public.

Anyone getting tired of listening to the same soundbeds over and over, i know they have to break up certain segments or whatever but im really sick of listening \skipping them, they are nearly all excessively long and feels like its just filler at times to try get them over the 40 minute mark.... id love if they just used like a 2 second jingle to break into different segments or even just gave them a certain shelf life of like 6 months or so.

People use them to skip through segments; therefore they need to be over thirty seconds. I do find some of them too long though. Some are too loud as well.

I particularly dislike the rugby commentary and Eric Cantona commentary. I'm glad i heard them, but they involve too much shouting

I care not one jot for your opinion ;)

It's not a jingle, but I'll never get tired of the clip of that American Football commentator describing an intruder on the field.

They're tedious, too long and mostly not funny after 1 listen, this and the overuse of the crap hotkeys like a bunch of teenagers doing their first podcast is putting me off bothering to tune in.

Really good chat with David Epstein on todays show. Always good to hear someone knowledgeable and articulate discussing their field.

Thought that Kate Liston spoke a lot but I didn't think she said very much..

Lots of generic claims and platitudes but nothing really specific.

Thought it was a bit of borefest personally
Yeah she spoke in typical soft science waffly way, using 3 synonyms every time to make a point when only one was needed.

I also felt she was far from being a dispassionate observer because:
    1. She was an active part of the women's group that campaigned to get the two players sacked based on private phone conversations
    2. Her "solution" was a re-education programme where she would be hired on an ongoing basis (which she said she had already lobbied Ulster rugby for).
    3. I find it difficult to trust the opinion of someone as fair and balanced when their living depends on there being a problem. Think about it, if there is no gender relations crisis and utopia becomes real, people like her are out of a job.

I thought a much more enlightened discussion could be had if they had brought on someone of the opposing views to her. As it was she was given carte blanche to make all sorts of assertions and casual assumptions with the tone of someone speaking as if they were unassailable truths. Essentially it was a bit of a waste of a podcast. Wish they could try again for 3rd time lucky ;)

Are they moving the Monday football one behind the pay window now?

I don't think so, they refer to non subscribers at the end of the podcast yesterday just before they replayed Ken's Salah translation. I'd assume it was just a mistake.

That was a good interview with Stephen Rochford, showed why McDevitt is one of the best interviewers around.

Murph's mammy is right about Mayo people, they'd sicken your hole when it comes to football, but they're grand otherwise.

I don't normally like the GAA coverage (just because i've very little interest in it) but i did think Eoin was brilliant interviewing Stephen Rochford.

For me my listening preference would go as:

    1) Football
    2) Rugby
    3) Random segments they do on obscure sports/stories

    4) GAA

I often wonder if they just said, sod it, and just dedicated themselves to covering football and only football how much of their audience would remain.

I'm primarily a football fan, but I like the mix, and I don't think they'd either be able, or even want, to generate enough football content for 5 days a week. There are plenty of football-only pods out there, I'm glad of the 2nd Cap.s' particular blend. It's good to hear about things outside the narrow lines of one's direct interests.

I wouldn't mind less Michael Deignan on hurling, though, a nice, well-meaning and enthusiastic hurling man that he is.

I listen to everything except for football. There are enough football podcasts out there, I wouldn't pay for one.

Jaysus they struggle enough to churn out one decent football pod a week sometimes. The monday shows have been as short as 35 minutes recently, and the lads themselves just don't have an interest in any other leagues to flesh it out a bit more. They really only seem to cover the top 6 in the premiership, there's rarely any proper coverage of relegation battles, la liga, serie A or the championship.

Terry Daley performed admirably as PRO for Roma's curva sud.

In fairness to them they've been going a long time but it's clear that they've gone stale. After the World Cup they should pack it in and do something else separately. They're fizzling out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,525 ✭✭✭kilns

I think Eoin and Ken would be fine as they are good at what they do but Murph could be in trouble getting another gig in the area, he just seems like a mate that you bring along to a five a side to make up the numbers if you are short

Doesn't appear to have been reflected in subscription numbers so far.
