Dhinor familiarises himself with the rafts systems and examines the ships log, trying to find out more information about the stasis pod and the person contained within.

Four weeks? To reach a star that's 4 light years away? Man those xboat budget cuts gouged deep!
"Walston is not a full member of the Imperium, hence legal ethics prohibits my accessing the relevant data....even though I could."
Look, I can't ask you to violate the edicts of your ethics server, but don't we have a higher ethical obligation both to the imperium and to Walston to ensure that ships that visit this planet can pursue mutually beneficial commerce, the exchange of information and technology, without worrying that the yokels on-planet are going to strip their ship down to it's pylons to make pots and pans?
We locate those parts, we restore the ship, we restore Walstons standing and integrity, we all move forward.
"The Imperium does no interfere with law on member worlds."
Fair enough. With no detainment facilities I was going to have to drop them all into the volcano anyway, so it's for the best.
"Nothing much. We were here to conduct investigation into the mining potential of the planet as part of an ongoing project to correlate star type to presence of habitable planet with good mine networks. However Walston has delayed full membership and hence the staff were relocated. I have been conducting sampling in areas too dangerous for humans to access. I lie in the mountain range on the main continent, I wouldn't recommend coming here."
Aaawww now I really want to come visit. So if you're on planet rather than orbital....what are you? And do you have a digger drone I could borrow (and ancommand interface or wafer if necessary) to help recover the IISS raft the last crew abandoned?"

Evan checks his digiwallet to see how much got wired.

    Evan approves.

Walston doesn't seem to value them, they don't seem to value themselves, so it's win win. They got any tech we can use?"

Seneca, the occupant of the pod, was apparently a Scholar brought in for consultation by the previous ship crew. Apparently to help interpret the data from the volcano.

He was never brought out of low berth stasis however, the ship malfunctioned before the thawing process could be started. Life signs are currently stable.

He was placed on the air raft when the abandoned ship, but removing him from the air raft would have been dangerous.

"Flammarion is thirteen light years hence". The computer is pedantic, but technically correct.

"I'm a class-5 Imperium supercomputer. A digging unit is on its way to you now. I can spare them given the cancellation of the project.

Do not worry about visiting me. I do not exceed the Shudusham limit and hence I'm not actually conscious, there is nobody to be concerned about."

Bakleth continues digging at the front of the craft until he tires. He rests for a number of hours and resumes again, not worrying whether others come to assist him or not.

He's just happy he can finally contribute to the group aside from learning their strange mating customs.

    Comms to group :
"Guys there's a digger inbound. Don't injure yourselves at the raft site.
I have a line on the guts of the M-drive, its close to where the ship is. If we can secure that we can work out how much **** we're in and how much help we need to ask the Walstonites for.
Oh and don't spend any of your advance on anything ship related, I think the scouts just picked up that tab. And then some."

Evan goes to talk to the hotel proprieter. See what's going on in town, what there is to do for entertainment, whether there are any Vargr acting troupes performing locally, what kind of shopping options there are, where a man might score some decent offworld tech etc etc.

Verne approaches the minister, 'ok we have spoken with our crew and located the plane. We've agreed to help you out with your survey but we will require the necessary equipment to carry that out. Can you provide this? We'll also need some staff to help us carry out the repairs to the ship so we can get on the move as soon as possible. Agreed?'

[OOC: are concealed carry licences a thing on this planet? do we need a licence for our weapons? Surely the fact we're on Scout duty allows us some liberties?]

OOC : Dunno but the Negotiator got tagged and bagged I thought. Or maybe just tagged? There's some kind of restriction on us anyway - was hoping that we can get a shiny piece of paper that lets us stick guns in peoples faces, then when we get to Salbarii we can stick guns in the faces of the people who have our M-Drive, nice and legal-like.

    The minister considers.

Walston is unsurprisingly monotonous once more. The best entertainment is movies from the rest of the Imperium that came out over 40 years ago and the odd traditional kilt weaving class.

Shopping wise, not too bad, typical of a backwater world, though the clothing choices would make you stick out like a sore thumb elsewhere. He does come across a goods shop with some tech from nearby Caladbolg, though going for triple the usual rate.

OOC: Walston's Tech Level is 8. The real world is about 7.5 by Traveller's scale. 8 in some things (Computers and Energy) and 7 in others (Medicine).

"I've been climbing trees most of my life, this should be easy enough."
She starts the decent to the cliff base and (providing she makes it) then goes on to the raft to check out the cryopod (and to drop off the fruit to the horseyboy).

OOC : So no Vargr am-dram group? :( Was hoping to hire a couple of big wolves and get them to pretend to be off-world Vargr, scare the **** out of the the locals in Salbarii with their disdain for the social status of their kinsmen :D Ah well.

Evan takes a look around, specifically for a Computer 2, Engineer (Jump) 2, Mechanic 2, Comms 2, Astrogation 2 or Medic 2 wafer - These can be used with the ship's computer so should fall inside the Scout budget but their TL would be a bit beyond Caladbolg unless they were imported imports. Worth a shot though. He also buys the dumbest backwaterest looking jacket and hat he can find, stashing them in the hotel for now.

Once the digger arrives, he heads out to the air/raft crash site with it, ideally whooping and hollering.

The life signs on the cryopod are stable, bringing the individual out of stasis removed from a ship's systems like this does carry a significant risk.

Evan's digger arrives around the time Bakleth has made a fairly decent job of unearthing the craft.

Together the digger and the K'Kree pull the raft out of the beach sand and out onto drier more stable land. A position from which Dhinor knows he can successfully take off.

Shortly afterward, as per the agreement with Verne, a contingent from the Walstonite government arrive. They perform minor repairs on the air raft and stock it with gas samplers and seismometers. One geologist, a young Vargr named Aelnoen, remains on the raft with Dhinor and Nestor, to help with the coming mission.

Bakleth wanders amongst the Vargr, overseeing that the repairs are done correctly. He also looks menacingly at any of them who attempt to eat a lunch consisting of any meat products while the crew conduct their repairs.

Dhinor comms the members of the group not at the raft site.

'We are about ready to take off in this barge to go complete the survey mission. If anyone else wants to join us, please let us know you are on the way.'

Dhinor idly plots a course to the survey site, calculates how much fuel it will take to complete the survey and return to the city and then calculates how much fuel it will take to reach the ship.

'Evan, how have you gotten on in the city? Anything to report?'

While waiting for a response, Dhinor turns to Aelnoen and asks him about his background and why he stayed aboard.

Finally (OOC: Phew) Dhinor calls Bakleth and asks does he want to come on the survey mission.

From the coordinates, the survey will require landing the air raft about halfway up the volcanic slope. Further would damage the engines and risk a crash. The main survey sites are vents along the slope up to the main crater. Although hard to believe and suicidal sounding, the ship itself lies in the main crater. Only those with Zero-G or Athletics training would be advised to make the descent into the main crater. As of the last scans the crater is free of lava.

Aelnoen looks around to ensure no other government employees are around.

"The Scouts who came here last time permitted me to be accredited with an Imperium recognised degree, once I sat the Scout geology exams. That's when I learned humans aren't so bad, just the assholes on this world."

    In leans in closer.

"Legally I have to remain here, I don't have emigration papers, but....when we get your ship, I'm coming with you..."

He's surprised at his own candour and becomes flustered.

    "...I mean, if that's okay?"

    Bakleth nods.

'I will go with puny humans. How is our guest?'

    He looks over at Nestor.

'Bakleth was going to break open cryopod but captain said you had to be here.'

    Bakleth harrumphs.

    'Bakleth like breaking things.'
