    Bakleth follows behind.

He taps Dhinor on the shoulder.

Bakleth lets the apple thud to the ground.

'I am not a dog to have treats thrown to him!'

He storms off ahead of Dhinor and Alex, making for the bar alone.

'Id throw at a dog. You throw to a friend' as he grins mischievously to Alex.

Well, I had spent pretty much my entire life in the army. My family weren't well off so I thought it was my best chance to see the stars. I was progressing well and had even gotten friendly with some of the higher ups, hence getting to go on peacekeeping missions and getting some advanced training.
That all seemed fine until I got injured on mission, nothing too bad but it made me reassess what I was doing. I was good and shouldn't still have to be busting my ass like that.
Anyways, I went for officer class a few times but nothing I could do was good enough for them. All the commanding officer recommendations in the world wasn't got to let them put a kid from a poor background there when there were better connected people to appoint and political connections to appease. I did one last tour with my old company and decided to go out and seek my own path. I got an ok pension and a clap on the back and that was it. I'm still close with a lot of people from my time there but I saw I was never going anywhere if I stayed there so it was time to head on.
What about you? Whats your story?

After sketching (perfectly) the descriptions for EvanRossTrentEthan Nestor comms everyone on the open channel. "Err, we could probably use some local transport if anyone finds a flyer."

She heads to the largest population centre and asks anyone she meets along the way for directions to a hotel or an empty warehouse that the crew can use as a base.

Dhinor regales Alex about his navy past, which is oddly parallel to Alex's army past. They share a few yuks about military life and its ups and downs before they arrive at the nearest bar they can find. They spot Bakleth ahead of them and shout to him that they are going into 'The Leaky Particle Accelorator', which seems far too overwrought a name for a bar.....but who is Dhinor to judge.

They enter the bar and survey the insides, before approaching the bar itself and striking up a conversation with the barman.

'Barkeep - any local brews i can buy for my friends and I? We are just into town and are looking for a drink and news of the area!'

Armed with his photorealistic sketches and his wits such as they are, Evan wanders the mean streets of Walstonville, his mind playing back that time he talked to the scout ships former crew and asked them who they were selling parts to, how they got home and where they left the ship..... (Ripple transition)

The ship's docking Iris has connected directly into an underground tunnel so that none of the party is exposed to the outside air.

They all pass through customs, who require Dhinor to register 'The Negotiator', which is then tagged with a tracking device.

After passing through, they head out into the "streets", which are really just interconnected tunnels with round manhole-like doors every few hundred meters serving as the entrances to sets of five apartments.

    Everybody quickly notices two things.

The humans of both genders dress similarly in kilts, fluffy shirts and sandals.

Secondly, the humans are vastly outnumbered by Vargr, who are deferential to the humans, bowing and moving out of the way for them.

    OOC: Vargr look like this:

'The Leaky Particle Accelerator' is easy to miss. Icicles hang over its sign and the like all doors on Walston no window or opening allows light out to indicate that anybody is home. Luckily the manhole slides back as they approach.

The barman is a large Vargr, whose command of human language is excellent for his race.

After going down one of the narrower tunnels Nestor was pointed to she comes before a small door and knocks.

The owner pulls back the seals and swings open the door to reveal a nice cosy apartment.

"An offworlder....are you looking to stay in the hotel?"

    [OOC: SNAP!]

Verne chuckles and nods at Glenn. 'Lets go'
A tunnel map just outside customs directs Verne and Glenn to the train station at the very end of these tunnels.

When they arrive, the station is simply another manhole door with four Vargr and a human standing outside it. Most obviously stare at Glenn and Verne, but try not to.

Eventually the door opens to an odd circular room, where they sit down and strap themselves in. Shortly afterward the room rotates as the "wheel train" rolls down a tube in the rocks and travels 120km to stop at a new set of tunnels.

A map outside indicates that these tunnels consist of houses, mining factories, a shopping center and the palace.

Evan thinks back to that time he won Loretta -his robot bodyguard sexbot - in a card game. No? Worth a shot.

Evan continues to look around for a mechanic, a salvage yard, a raft rental joint, a porter - anyone who might give him a line on where the Walstoneers were moving the genuine scout parts, and anyone who remembers a shipwrecked crew with a roboarmed captain; he'll avoid showing pictures to anyone who feels crime-adjacent if it feels like it might spook them. He'll also see if he can get a look at a planetary survey (running back to ask Dagonets crew if they haven't left) to see if there are viable craters around. If he gets decent Intel from reasonably clean people he'll tip moderately. He'll also ask about renting/buying a Raft. He'll try not to call any helpful Vargr "good boy" but no promises.

Dhinor let's Bakleth do the talking on this one. 'this should be good' he thinks to himself.

He sips on his wine as he watches on; for once not swilling it back as quickly as he can.

The palace's entrance is like everywhere else, a manhole. A golden manhole with jewelry, but still.

Upon entering Verne and Glenn are met with a large open space containing displays on the history of Walston. Beyond the displays is an array of four couches and a desk in front of them. Behind the desk a set of stairs leading both up and down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,385 ✭✭✭jasonb

Glenn looks at the different displays, learning what he can about the history of Walston. Then he walks up to the desk, looking for a bell or some way of summoning someone.

OOC: Is the autopioloted plane still around Walston? Might be able to hack the last journey from the navigation computer on board.

One thing Nestor notices is that the Vargr living in the hotel complex seem to do all the cleaning and cooking....close to slave like in how they are treated.

The hotel itself consists of a main room when you enter with plenty of mahogany furniture, with a kitchen and fancy dining room adjoined. All individual rooms are on the lower floor.

Dhinor tells Alex and Bakleth he is going to stretch his legs and clear his head.

He leaves the bar and visits the surrounding shopfronts and public buildings, asking about any news of a derelict ship, shipwreck or abandoned ship in the area of a variety of individuals, alien and human alike.

    OOC: Dhinor succeeded!

The locals are only too happy to inform the handsome Traveller about recent ship news.

Apparently the Scout Ship being abandoned is talk of the town, first of all due to the rarity of anything happening on Walston and secondly because the crew had stayed in the area in a few hotels and bars. Apparently they were complete assholes and left rooms trashed after they stayed in them.

One shop owner even points Dhinor in the direction of their abandoned plane, a kilometer out of town.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

Dhinor goes back to the first bar and tells Bakleth and Alex of his success. He asks do they want to head for the plane.

Dhinor also comms the rest of the group and tells him of his success and asks them to meet him at the coordinates of the plane.

Finally, before leaving town, he apologizes to the owners of the trashed rooms and explains the previous crew were bad eggs, and he will ask for compensation to be sent as soon as possible (while leaving details of how and from whom somewhat vague).
