Foxsat connecting to internet

    I have a Foxsat HDR. I finally have a good internet connection. Is there any advantage in connecting the Foxsat ?

    None of the catch up services are available here, ITV was available up to last summer, not anymore. I have the 1100s, so its handy for Netflix, youtube, are they available on Foxsat.

    If it's the original Foxsat HDR then it won't do any of the catch up stuff anymore because they changed the spec.

    But if you have the custom firmware then there's still updates to the extra packages every so often.

    It's just such a nice mix of Freesat "everything just works"
    and Linux FTA extras like web management and unencrypted recording in HD and watching the current time delay feed that
    you can totally forgive it for having a slow interface which becomes nearly unusable if you have too many recordings to list. (delete a few and it's OK again)

    Just got mine up and running again today. With the custom firmware you can also customise the Freesat channel list and include the Saorsat channels (if you have an LNB for that) but you don't get EPG info for those with that setup. Still nice to have though.

    Yes , it's nice to have Channel 4 HD again :)

    The not getting the EPG is really annoying as Saorsat, unlike SKY or Freesat doesn't hide their EPG.

    Setting record timer for Saorsat via the web interface isn't too tricky. But sticking a USB on a Saorview TV is fairly easy too.

    So how easy is it to update ? I dread the thought of messing it up. Does it mean deleting existing recordings ?

    It is very straightforward to install. As it is a firmware upgrade I don't think you will lose your recordings but there are some good threads out there with all the info you should need. If you get stuck then post back here.
