Problems connecting Alcatel 510 to IOL BB

I am finally online! I can connect successfully with the IOL BB modem, but I am having grief connecting with the Alcatel 510 (V4) modem/router. There are a couple of things that I have noticed with this. Firstly, I can only connect to the router while I am online with the USB modem, which is weird. This isn't so much a problem, but it does seem to point toward a conflict issue. Secondly, to change the settings of my modem/router I need an INI file. Does anyone have an INI file that they are using to connect to IOL with a similar piece of hardware?

I am learning as I go with all this, so is there anything else that I need to do to get the router up and running. It has a built in firewall that I feel may cause me some headaches before I get sorted. :(

EDIT: Click here to see the blurb on the modem/router. There is also an INI file there to look at.

Is it IOL business or IOL's RADSL?
That router only seems to do PPPoA from what I can see.

Its IOL's RADSL. Would that make a difference? The Alcatel Speedtouch 510 is sold by Eircom, and IOL repackage their BB so it should work fine.

That uses PPPoE. Can that router make PPPoE connections?

Yes it can. According to the brochure it can make PPPoE, PPPoA, ETHoA and CIP connections. I am not 100% sure how these are set. There is very little interaction using the web interface so I imagine the ini file would need to be used. The problem is that they don't tell me how to do that.

Here's a link to a UK review that may be of use to you. There's also some downloadable docs here, including a 300(!) page CLI reference.

I haven't used this box myself, so I can't be more specific.

I think I know what the problem is. The default factory settings have the firewall enabled, so I have to turn this off to get it working. I have to do all this via a Telnet connection to the router. From my searching on the web about this modem/router, it seems to be a really good one in that everything is configurable, but unfortunately the documentation is non existant.

    sorry OT :

spud_gun how long did it take IOL to connect you from day you sent off order?

Between 3 to 4 weeks, much longer than it should have as Eircom rejected my first submission for no reason (IOL forward the forms straight away to Eircom) so it was resubmitted and accepted.
