If we had one government

The problem I see with all these different countries is trade.
We currently have some countries rich and some countries starving.
We currently have enough food to feed everyone.
We currently have a system where we have wars to control all the countries on the oil delivery route. This leads to terrorism and isis type crowds.
We have a system where everyone has to work everyday. If we didn’t we wouldn’t trade with other countries and profit from them and gdps etc etc.
Why not have one country. Resources are divided up economically, some places do some jobs some places do another. Everyone works less.
Ireland could grow the food other countries could do what their climate or skill set allow. There would be no need to invent the next big thing that goes into landfill in a year or two.
Provided the boss of the world isn’t corrupt this in my opinion is the best form of world management.
Imagine the whole country just had to make sure we did a good job growing food. We’d all be home from work at lunchtime enjoying the few measly years you get on earth.
No famines or currencies or shops running out of toilet roll because the dictator caused inflation.

Would it be such a bad thing?

India is one country and there's hardly equality in opportunity, wealth or access to food, education or employment.

Not sure what you mean. India was colonized. Is run by idiots. Inhabited by huge numbers of uneducated. Lots of these areas of land could do with better management.

In our small little country we have Dublin V The Rest. That's conflict, expand it and it's war(s).

    Or, straight, white males.

But under one government people in northwest Sligo would have the same new shiny stuff from China as people from Dublin.
We wouldn’t have a lad in Sligo moaning about Dublin people getting all the jobs or roads or whatever.

    Then what was your point?
Having a single country would solve nothing because factions, idiot politicians and ruling classes would still exist.
You seem to imagine some sort of super commune Shangri-La. Look at the disquiet with existing countries and multiply it up to a global scale - the mind boggles at the thought.

I don't know if you're aware of this fact but the people of Sligo and Dublin currently have the one government and don't have the same 'shiny stuff' of life.

    Three would be better.

In George Orwell’s dystopian novel ‘1984’, the world is ruled by three superstates:

    • Oceania covers the entire continents of America and Oceania and the British Isles, the main location for the novel, in which they are referred to as ‘Airstrip One’.
    • Eurasia covers Europe and (more or less) the entire Soviet Union.
    • Eastasia covers Japan, Korea, China and northern India.

Resources would be divided efficiently and equally. What part don’t you get.
There might be the odd bit of battle of hearts and minds to advertise the idea at the start but I can’t see an Indian being put out by the idea that they’d have the same standard of living as Americans.

And what wonder places they were to live in. ;)

You don't get it. Resources would be far from equally divided. We can't even do it on a national scale as things stand. One caste of Indian would never countenance another caste enjoying the same standards and even the lower caste will accept that as being how things are meant to be.

Again the reason we don’t have an equal standard across Ireland is because of the trade. All the jobs are in dublin.
    Rents are cheaper in Sligo.
    The free market isn’t working.
I propose a solution and you tell me that it won’t work because we have a problem.

I could see it working if there weren't any people in the world.

    Yes, you're right. Carrying on.

    Have a great night.

But who'd govern then? Animal Farm here we come.....

But, I agree. The reason the plan won't work is because of people.

Ok but in your utopia...who decides who lives in the nice, sunny areas with lovely views (Bahamas, Mediterranean, SE Asia) and who lives in Siberia or Saharan Africa?

If certain areas do certain tasks, wouldnt there be no future for some kids as they are born into hard labour (mining, farming, manufacturing) while some get to be surgeons and scientists. And the resource discrepancies (temperate climates will have abundant water but those along the equator might need to ration in warmer times (and if you say ship water to them...now you have extra resources spent on these people vs others....thats favoritism)
There would be no need to invent the next big thing that goes into landfill in a year or two.

So human advancement stagnates, since war and consumerism drives the evolution of technology/products. Why make a better fridge, would have to make billions to make sure everyone has the same. How do you ensure everyone gets the same standard of food? Grow a bit more than you need, give everyone 1 and destroy the rest so nobody gets more than their neighbour?

All very simple things to work out fairly.

Money wouldn’t be spent on technology. There’s be no need for money. The areas charged with sorting new technology would just get on and do it.

On food you’d probably get a shop token where you can get so much calories or weight or whatever the area in charge of sorting out fairness decides and go get it.

On where people live I don’t think there’s any reason we have to live in Siberia or on the equator apart from a few. There’s always a few that’ll want to live there. People go live in the Antarctic every winter and work little over minimum wage jobs.

Not really into the sci fi stuff. I just read the chompsky thread and a few of his videos and I heard somebody say you have a lot of criticisms but no solutions. So I came up with a solution.

1 government is working soooooo well for the United States. A bitterly divided nation.

Again one government under the free market with no equality.
I give you a solution and you say it won’t work because there is a problem.

You did NOT give a solution...you gave a naïve notion. That is far from a solution, as a solution has to be workable.

Look, if you had one shot, one opportunity
To seize the means of production,
    One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

Oh give Star Trek a try. Its brilliant and the human race has overcome greed and accumulation of things. No hunger or needs or wants. Instead people work for the betterment of themselves and the human race.

If it could be done I agree it would be great but I think we are little while away from it yet. For instance I can not see Putin or small minded Russian* people being too happy about letting their Country be ruled by one Government. They might not be too happy if for instance because we became one world ruled by one government it means its ok for gay and trans people to get married and live in there former country and there is all the religion beliefs as well. Some people are really so brainwashed by their religion there is just no changing them.

*Not I am not saying all Russians are like that just a lot. They are still stuck in the past and its not the only country.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

But there’s already one government for Sligo and Dublin. Yet you expect a magic world government to solve this difference (and make Indians as rich as Americans)
