Anyone have any good series to recommend? Have watched Dark, Unabomber, Mindhunter, The Sinner, La Mante, Bordertown all over the past number of months and really enjoyed them all if anything could recommend something along those lines.. Cheers.

Godless & Black Mirror Season 4

I've only got 2 eps left and I'm actually quite liking it. I wasn't sure after the first episode but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's quite sweet in parts and it's pretty harmless really. As I said earlier it's nothing to shout from the rooftops about but it's a good one for watching when you just want to relax and not have to concentrate too hard.

It's odd though because I don't really get any nostalgia for from it. I wasn't quite as old as these kids in 1996 but I remember the 90's but this really just reminds me of TV shows from the 90's rather than the actual 90's. But then I think Ireland was still a bit behind the rest of the developed world in the 90s. I watch The Goldbergs, set in the 80s, and get more nostalgic about my 90s childhood from it.

Yea had a feeling it was going that route, Not for me.

Watched Dirk Gently thought it was good and Season 2 started great but the effects and props and costumes looked very poor. I still would like to see season 3 but I see it was canceled.
Do the books follow and complete the series?

Finished watching Dynasty. Really enjoyed it. Hope there is a season 2.

If you mean the series with Elijah Wood, that was only loosely adapted from the 2 books which in themselves were somewhat loose and don't exactly wrap up every idea that comes up. They're a fun read, though :)

Finished Everything Sucks there and I have to say I really loved it. Some of the characters are kind of annoying at the start but by the end I liked them all and the whole thing is just really really sweet. I know that probably doesn't sound like much of a compliment but I mean it as one. I would definitely watch a second season if they do one.

Happened with Line of Duty before too, could be licensing.

2 and a bit. They published the incomplete draft of the third along with some random speeches and articles of Adams in "The Salmon of Knowledge". One of the most heartbreaking experiences I've had reading was reaching the sudden halt in that book.

But yeah, the books are almost entirely unlike the show, except in that the central character of Dirk is a "holistic detective".

I really thought the show was growing into its own though; pity it's cancelled.

I've seen a few people say over the last few days that they're having problems with Netflix on some platforms but it works fine on others. Might be a Netflix issue.

I've been watching Badlands, Texas. An 8 episode documentary about a murder in a small West Texas border town. I've watched 5 episodes and it's pretty good.

You mustn't have seen many films in that case.

You watch Fair City, Eastenders and Coronation street but Django Unchained is ****. ****ing hell, there's no accounting for taste.

Princess Cyd, which has shown up on Netflix after its recent festival run, opens with a tragedy, but the film itself largely eschews traditional drama. It is instead deeply focused on its two lead characters - a woman and her teenage niece who were affected by the tragedy 10 years ago, but have long since gotten on with life.

By avoiding drama and being intensely focused on actresses Rebecca Spence & Jessie Pinnick, writer/director Stephen Cone delivers moments of characterisation - both quiet and spoken - that pack a sort of emotional heft and believably you rarely come across. They're very different people, but the friendship that forms between them is handled with the best sort of delicacy. There are two or three scenes that are particularly beautiful moments of insight into the relationship between the two women, as well as young Cyd's romance with a coffee shop worker named Katie. It's rare to see a male director handle female sexuality so elegantly.

It doesn't all work - one moment of off-screen violence feels ill at odds with the understated story elsewhere, and there's one or two scenes in Cyd & Katie's romance that feel a bit cheesy. But for the most part this is a film that is pretty unusually compassionate and respectful towards its characters. It's gentle and modest, sometimes to a fault, but Princess Cyd is an assured piece of work that does some impressive, admirable things within its self-imposed confines.

When I grow up, I want to be able to write film reviews like this. Nice one! :)

Watched a few episodes of Glitch today. Think its been mentioned a few times in here. The premise of it sounded like an Australian version of the Returned but beyond the basic idea it's very different. It's not as gripping or atmospheric as The Returned (French version) was but it's decent enough. I was surprised to see Ned Dennehy in it. Thank God they got an actual Irish person to play that character.

    Love me some McHale..

.. it's basically 'The Soup' or if you've never seen 'The Soup', it that takes the piss out of American TV (mainly reality TV) a là Harry Hill's TV Burp.

    Recommend it for silly laughs!

Anyone who's a fan of Terence Davies should check out A quiet Passion. I Half expected it to be drearily boring and sombre considering Emily Dickinson didn't live the most eventful life but it is a really great movie, gets pretty dark in the second half with all the health and family problems she had to go through.

Very funny at times as well which I never expected. Nearly all the performance's are very theatrical (knowingly so mind you), reminded me of a movie that would of been made in the 30s or 40. . . the kind that don't get made much today unfortunately.

    :pac:
