    Absolutely.

    That's unreal.

Of course not. Winning is all they care about. Some only see conspiracies and dishonesty. It’s one of the best quiz programs since Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

I kind of have to agree with Tom here, unfortunately. :o

However, I doubt it's solely the decision of the Chasers themselves to throw a few games now and then, or to take it to the last few seconds with low targets - I reckon they take instructions from the producers.

They can't win *too* many games now, can they? And there has to be *some* amount of drama, too... ;)

Are these repeats, or are TV3/B3 showing the latest episodes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭job seeker

Itv shows the latest episode. At 5pm.

To be fair I think there were some tough questions there and once you lose your stride then your brain starts to freeze up and you tend to just give up and he looked like he had just given up

If it was Jenny it would have been questions like who won the Eurovision 3 times in a row or what dogs does the Queen own

I *do* find it hard to believe, TBH, that some people *still* haven't warmed to her after nearly two and a half years...

It's clear as day they throw some episodes, and it's fairly blatant in this instance imo

It's an entertainment show and it would be incredibly boring if the chaser kept winning

If you are a regular viewer, you’d know that Shaun, especially, is prone to brain freeze if he gets a bad start. It’s even happened to the Beast. They make their living mainly from these shows. It isn’t in their best interests to cheat.

I don't mind her, think she's a pretty good chaser, not sure she has a shtick though. The rest of them have a defined character and she hasn't really.

Some people just aren't as likeable or easy to warm to as others. It's human nature. If everybody was popular then nobody would be popular, and all that

As TMC rightly points out the rest all have their own individual personas which have endeared them to fans at this stage. She has very little unique personality about her.

I don't mind her myself. I am a bit dubious about the questions she does get though, especially given there's been a bit of a backlash to her online. My problem is with the show in that regard though, not her on a personal level

Mark Labbett put up a very bizarre tweet saying something like "giving her the good teams to play against has paid off". Shouldn't it be completely random who they play in theory? (Of course it's a TV show and it isn't, but what is he doing tweeting that)

I think we might have to agree to disagree on this one.

I *am* a regular viewer, and I've seen plenty of wrong answers given by the Chasers that just don't feel all that natural. Even Anne is capable of giving wrong answers in this manner, too.

Mind you, I wouldn't say that they're cheating. They may be bending the rules a bit, but they're not actually breaking them.

And, as I said, I reckon the producers give them instructions to stall on some questions and even to run out of time now and again when the target is low. If they didn't stall and they always reached these low targets, then viewers would get bored, would they not?

    :o:o:);)

Well, she *is* younger than the others - and she isn't a comedian like Paul, or a barrister like Shaun (nor does she have a catchphrase like he does).

Worth pointing out that she might not have become a Chaser had Anne not suggested it to her. ;) And of course, she could have become an Egghead instead of a Chaser - as indeed could have all the others. ;)

Well that's pretty much what I said, she doesn't have a hook for people to latch on to, and therefore a reason people may be slower to warm to her.

Paul would be my favourite chaser, he is normally pretty friendly and it's only gentle ribbing if they're crap.

Shaun Wallace has been stealing a living on that show for a long time. That was the worst performance from a chaser that I've ever seen.

    Stealing? Oof, that's harsh... :o

As I've said before, I'll never tire of his catchphrase. :D;)

    One question shoot out.

Bradley seems to genuinely antagonise him. :pac: But at the end of the day it's just another day at the office. :)

It happens very regularly on the Celebrity Edition, but it definitely does happen on the real one aswell from time to time

It's an entertainment first and foremost. Of course it'll be manipulated to an extent

I put up a post here a few weeks back when Mark had a pretty easy target to hit and was powering through the answers when he suddenly got some bizarre ones wrong (but his 'guess' in each case pretty much handed the answer to the team - who were very mediocre - resulting in a push back).

He also uncharacteristically paused for ages before giving answers, letting the clock run down near the end. Mark more than anyone is a real speed player

Yeah, it would definitely be under Producers' instructions. Similarly when there's a low target to catch but they throw a few answers to drag it out as long as possible, for dramatic effect.

They simply can't have the Chasers winning every week and they also need to vary the show in any way they can, to keep attracting viewers. So if that means throwing a final chase where there's only 15 to catch so be it - otherwise there would be no drama watching the Chaser in the final chase, if any team got under 20 in their final round.

He's going absolutely nowhere don't worry. In fact, he's even signed up for the Australian Edition

Not a hope in hell they'd willingly get rid of any of the originals. They're a huge part of the show

There's too many pop culture questions in it these days, which I guess is in an attempt to keep drawing a wider range of contestants. They don't suit the DD

If you look at earlier editions on Challenge, questions were much more varied (and more difficult) and Shaun was a machine in them days

What is the 20k backup prize about? I thought Rachel was on the celebrity chase in 2016. Is the episode on 3 player?

5 grand each regardless I think.

No surprise at all the chaser failed to catch them. ITV flagship charity event and all, wonder how convincingly the chaser took a dive.

The only way they can give some sort of credibility to the Celeb Chase is to give the celebs an extra 30 seconds on the clock than the chasers get. That way we wouldn't have so many ridiculous embarrasing wrong answers by the chasers. I know its all about charity but there has to be some level of credibility also. I love the Chase but can't watch the Celeb version anymore

She was. Apparently this was a UNICEF SoccerAid special that was on in the usual 5pm slot on Friday on ITV.

It won't be on 3player, becuase be3 haven't been showing the latest series.

There's a celeb episode on ITV 4 at the minute. After 3 contestants there's 150,000 in the kitty. Steve Davis on now.

Steve, sensibly, takes the lower offer.

    Fully agree

I think - like with WWTBAM - the celeb versions are the biggest rating draws so sadly I can't see anything changing

Some of them are embarassingly rigged

But look they appear fun to make, they're played in a good spirit, can be good craic to watch and of course its all for charity so at the end of the day it's pretty harmless - I can accept :pac:
