This week, they ended their relationship with said auditor.

You do not know this, it could have been Tether or the Auditor who Ended the relationship for many reasons unknown to us
And yes, I am still hodling at the moment,
mainly on speculation, but also because I can make gains from this Volatility.

It was known about but it was never discussed in terms of it potentially propping up btc until this week (why, I don't know).

Why because main stream media were not talking about it? Plenty of people have discussed this long before this week.

Agree completely - well, we do know they ended the relationship - but I take your point - we don't know specifically why.

I also take your point that you are speculating on it either not being an issue or that you'll weather through it should the 5hít hit the fan.

I'm not comfy with it so I'll sit it out for the moment...but of course, I may be passing up an opportunity..who knows...

Do we have any timeline until when we can expect the americans to report on their investigation?

I was aware a long, long time ago that there was an issue with Tether. However, what I was not aware of was that it had implications for BTC (should the rumours turn out to be true) - in terms of BTC prices being propped up through the actions of Bitfinex.

If you are saying this was discussed widely, then I'm sourcing info in all the wrong places.

I am not saying it was discussed widely but it is something which I have seen discussed on other forums for months prior to it actually going mainstream in the last week. I think it is all incredibly shady and wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the accusations are true but I have said before that I am unsure at what stage these markets are in and how long this will all last so I am making hay while the sun shines rather than worrying about the multiple things that could happen which would cripple the markets at anytime.

    No I do not,
but the The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission sent subpoenas on Dec. 6 to virtual-currency venue Bitfinex and Tether. They are both based abroad, Bitfinex is Taiwan so don't expect any answers anytime soon.
Maybe next year or the year after?

Exactly. Bitfinex will wipe their arse with those subpoenas.

Was aware that they can ignore the subpoena - but thought the yanks would produce their report in any event - jebus, if it's going to be a year, then they are not acting in the public interest like they claim they are.

Yeah, I thought that was the irony of the scenario...that bitcoin could be set back as a consequence of the printing of currency!

Dropping like a stone currently. Guess we will find out soon enough if those support levels just above $8k are still there.

The support floods in. Anyone day-trading this **** over the last few days must be doing very well. The support and resistance levels have been incredibly easy to call. I guess that is always the case until you end up on the wrong side that one time :P

Some battle going on all day at the support level. Get up, stay down, get up, stay down ......

Really has dropped so much. Where is the sell point for people.
People were not happy to sell at 20k, they held firm thinking it was headed for 100k, but then if it did hit 100k they'd not sell, as they think it's heading for 500k and then repeat as they think it's going to 1 million. I think a lot of people will die with their bitcoins as they never want out at any price.

I'm holding but history doesn't always repeat, you need to acknowledge the possibility

Christ lads. I'm losing my appetite for raw steaks at this stage. The thing is f*cked. Someone say a prayer for the poor ***** who bought at 19k.

This is no longer a bull trap. This is a God damn hog roast.

Ever think that the Bitcoin market is just too unpredictable to invest much in, just 100% gambling really?

If it was shares in a business you would have access to a lot more info plus possible dividend and also share certificates.

I understand a lot of users have made money on it but there was/is also the possibility that the same users would have made money through traditional gambling such as Paddy Power on Red/Black roulette, horses, matches etc.

I really think that a lot of people have got caught up in this without knowing much about it and due to the nature/risks of it could lose a lot of money.

Hope that no one here has lost too much.

    Some huge drops recently.

Without a shadow of a doubt . Below €7k is a given . How much below is the question?

    Hope it falls outright.

Needs to be replaced at the very least.

Just gone below 7K without much of a fight.

Spoke too soon. Big bounce straight back up after.

Seeing reports that both the SEC and CFTC Chairmans testimonies on Crypto markets tomorrow to the Senate Banking committee are generally positive. That would be some much need good market news.

Bit of resistance being put in to try and get it back over 7k. 6869 on gdax as I type. Massacre. This could drop below 6k now very quickly. Any bit of buy action seems to be trying to get some margin.

€6k is realistic. Is it now time to bail or time to buy
