Windows 10 update causes black screen

    Microsoft Windows 10 Home
    Version 10.0.10586

    Dell
    Inspiron N5050
    BiOS version 2.6

    I upgraded to Windows 10 and Windows automatically tries to apply the latest updates.
    When it does and I reboot I see the Windows splash screen and then it loads to a blank screen.
    Sometimes the cursor appears on the top left hand corner then seems to do a carriage return and appears on the line underneath.
    Either way the screen is black and I can't use any of the keys to launch a menu.

    I end up having to reset Windows in order to log on.
    I'm now stuck in a loop of Windows updating and then having to reset it.

    I've tried updating the display drivers and any other out of date drivers.


    Any ideas how to fix this ?

    I'd start by checking if their is a BIOS update for your device..

    yep, another user says the bios made all the difference. however - it is recommended this update is done pre upgrade to win10.

    Don't just do BIOS, if BIOS gets you in update all the drivers on the machine.

    As TallGlass said - I'd suggest that you should update everything because it's probably a driver not playing properly with Windows after the update by the sounds of things.

    I had some initial teething issues with Windows 10 when I first upgraded and making sure the drivers were up to date before I did it seemed to make things much better.
