What controls are in the utility. A timer? is it digital. . Do you have to turn up the thermostat to heat the HW or does the boiler just come on to heat it on demand.
Either way, your simplest solution is to replace the current thermostat with a smart stat. Tado and Netatmo are wire in replacements. Nest requires a separate control box to be wired in at the point where the stat wires go, usually next to the boiler or the existing controller. If the HW is able to heat without the heating being on, (simple gravity feed from the boiler controlled by a cylinder stat) then the nest can also give remote control of HW heating as the heatlink box that comes with it has two control zones, heating and HW. A similar box can be added to Tado and Netatmo stats.
It looks to me though that you can't heat the HW without the radiators, hence you use the immersion in the summer. Heating the HW without the heating will require some additions to you plumbing, but thats another days work.
Have a read through this more appropriate thread to enlighten (or confuse) yourself.

this is what I have currently https://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/danfoss-randall-tp7000rf-wireless-programmable-room-thermostat-087n741800/
the left hand side is in the utility and the right hand side in the kitchen

once I turn up the temp on the kitchen unit it turns on the boiler. This heats the rads and the hot water at the same time.

So excuse my ignorance or it could be just that I am completely bamboozled with the amount of products out there for smart heating controls - all claiming to be better than the other.

I have an oil fired heating system. I want to change my controls so that I can turn on/off the heating remotely via smart phone.

Currently, my controls are in the utility and I have a thermostat in the kitchen. I can only control the heating from this thermostat.

What product should I be looking at. I would also take into consideration that I may add a camera to the house at some stage and would like to incorporate this.

I recently installed a Nest in my home - similar setup to you except my source is gas not oil, but Nest supports both. Nest has a whole suite of products (https://nest.com/ie/) and works very well with Google Assistant (and I think the Alexa integration is pretty decent, though I'm on the Google side and just love the flexibility and ease of use). I settled on my Nest (over Hive and other similar smart thermostat offerings) mainly because of the number of smart devices that it is compatible with (https://nest.com/ie/works-with-nest/ - and that list will likely keep expanding)

Sorry...yes I should have probably created a separate thread...maybe a Home Heating Automation FAQ pinned topic might be an idea?

That's a wireless single zone programmable stat and receiver. The nest is ideal to replace this, as it connects wirelessly to it heatlink box. Nest is on a good deal with Electric Ireland, ( to keep Lordgoat happy)

Amazon UK has £11 off Hue Colour bulbs at the moment
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01LVXIM42/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

And for anyone interested in controlling with Alexa they've a 3 for 2 on Echo Dots. Use code DOT3PACK at the checkout. Apparently it's out of stock until the end of the month and Ts & Cs say the offer is only available to customers with a UK address, but the discount did show up for me with my Dublin address (haven't actually purchased though).

That''s value. Do you mean "defeat" as in beat the competition, or admitting market defeat and discounting/going downmarket to hang in?

I suspect he meant "decent" probably auto-correct.

I think Netatmo are doing well, introducing new products every few months. Plus they are announcing partnerships with a whole bunch of companies, including ones who make heating systems. So seem to be doing well.

They have always been one of the cheapest options on the market, which is one reason I went with it.

But they don't feel cheap, excellent app, excellent integration, nice thermostat (though it does have one flaw, the mechanical button can break to easily).

That's probably it. I do like the look of the Netatmo, plus they do TRVs as well.
How do people here find Hive? (and don't say follow the bees). It's an ugly stat for sure.

I'm delighted with our hive. Stat a bit big but you get over that and means it is easy to find as we have a messy house and the stat on a metal stand for the downstairs zone. Best thing is being able to control the heating and hot water from outside the house. We haven't come home to a cold house since I installed it. Does exactly what it is supposed to. Have a schedule for the mornings as we are pretty consistent with getting up times etc, and then use the remote turn on on the way home, rather than setting a timer and guessing when we might be home.

The alexa control is handy too when you get up earlier than normal and can hide under the covers after asking Alexa to turn the heat on.

    Definitely recommend it.

Find Hive very good to be honest, stat could be a bit slimmer I suppose, but not what I would call ugly (don't look at it too much to be honest) and is easy and straightforward to use. As the stat is battery powered it could be easily hidden away anyway.

We didn't have much control previously only having a simple immermat timer so it is good now to be able to control the heat and hot water separately and remotely.

App also fairly simple to use, have a number of bulbs, plugs and sensors set up on it without much issue.

Always seems to be regular updates and products being launched and that, being a British Gas company, this would continue to be the case, always a consideration when looking at new tech.

Google Assistant works well with it also and we are just waiting on the Google Home (have to collect it from the sis) which will add a bit of voice control to the whole thing.

Actually looking at adding it to the mothers house and saving the calls about how to change the timer she has!!!

Edit : Sorry, should take this off the bargain alerts thread

It's been lower for a while now - a new gen one on the way? Or just a new price point?!

Id say this is most likely the case, as the system seems to have expanded at a huge rate, they want to push it even further! The Hue Entertainment update is huge for Hue, and is going to open it up to all sorts of possibilities!!

They're going for the jugular in the Smart Lighting world, and lower prices will help a lot.

It’s a pity it took saps like me buying nigh on 70 bulbs over the last 4 years at pretty much full prices to help get Hue to where it is!!

I just switched to them but took the €175 cash back offer. You can then ring as an existing customer once switched and get it for €130 anyway.

What's the catch with the 175 back offer?

    Not sure!
I think it’s applied to your account rather than straight cash back. But you’re getting the same savings and contract is still a year.

Can you have more than one nest in the same system?

Eg. One upstairs, one down. Currently have one upstairs on the landing beside hot press where the old dumb one was replaced. Problem is heat rises and it shuts off before it should.

Figured if there was one downstairs it might maintain an average of the two.

It's applied as a credit to your account so when you get your first bill, you should have nothing to pay and should have a good chunk towards your next bill too.

Yes. I have three zones (bedrooms, living rooms & water) and require 2 nests as each can only handle 2 zones. Bedrooms on one and living rooms/water on the other.

Your home would need to be zoned for 2 stats, with the hot water pumped independently to the zones' rads at the request of their zone stat. Putting 2 stats on a single zone system will just mean the heating will stay on until both stats reach target temperature, not the average of their settings.
This post should be in this thread, to keep his lordship happy.

    We’ve got two zones, heat/water

I wish they’d a cheaper one that you could put in each room as a slave to tell the master the temp
