The airport works a profit share system. Of course, they want the more profitable coffee sold in the airport.

But you know 1p flights and all that.

So what about recognising it's Irish Passengers, and having someplace they recognise, either on arrival or leaving the Airport. Or they could just stop selling coffee.

By high quality they mean some ****e like Starbucks or other sugary "coffee" place

I think that should read the DAA wants higher priced coffee. The DAA sees that local chain shops like Spar, don't charge extortion prices.

    Spar is Dutch isn't it?

And err, yes, it does charge extortionate prices, like every other Spar does.

If you think it's overpriced, don't fúcking buy it. It's as simple as that. If they charge €8 and you still buy it, Dublin Airport were dead right to raise the price.

Spar, the local chain with 12500 stores across 42 countries, with its hq in The Netherlands?

And it's coffee is adequate, but expensive.

The coffee is Irish though, I believe.

Isn't Insomnia owned by one of the dragons?

Don't buy a Double grande special cream machinatinio with extra marshmallows then.

Starbucks has a pretty big selection of different blends available if you actually ask them. Can't blame them for giving people what they order.

Edit: The joys of being a new account - that looks dodgy as hell. I swear I'm not a spambot.

Spar is a franchise, so most of them are locally owned. Although I suppose the same is true of McDonald's...

I have never bought coffee in a shop, but when I worked in the airport I used the Spar shop.
Airport shops are used by more than international posers.

I thought Spar had Seattle's Best Coffee as it's instore brand.

Funnily enough, it's owned by Starbucks.

    ?

When did Ireland move to a zone where coffee grows? Because the weather should be way better here if we are growing coffee. Just because someone sticks something in a posh oven doesn't make it an Irish coffee.

I suddenly thought that when I hit enter, I should have said an Irish owned brand.

Surely the obvious problem here is replacing Spar, which sells a variety of products, with a coffee shop with a smaller, more specialised range of products.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

what they really need is a vending machine that sells bread, eggs and milk so you don't have to stop for essentials on the way home.

From what I hear the DAA are such a pain to deal with I've a feeling spar won't be to upset .

Spar was the only place in T2 to buy a leap card/visitor leap card.

    €€€€

Although I believe the stationery/bookshop section of Arnotts is franchised to WH Smith also

The change of the outlet is in line with Dublin Airport’s vision that every passenger is “well fed and ready for their journey”.

But it’s in the fcuking arrivals hall!!

I love this Spar, and always buy a coffee there when I’m collecting someone (the coffee is grand), but never when I’m travelling (and I travel a lot through T2). I even buy milk & the odd lotto ticket there.

If they want passengers to be well fed, do it after security!
What passengers decide they’ll sit and have their frocca mocha latte before they go through security? Or transit passengers: “I’ll just nip out past security for a coffee, and then queue up for 20 minutes to get back airside”

I’d say most of its customers are people waiting for other people to arrive (it is the arrivals hall after all). But yeah, let’s replace it with a bloody Starbucks so people with MacBooks can sit there pretending to write novels.

If they want rid of the Spar, fine, get rid of it, but don’t come out and say it’ll be for the benefit of passengers.

    It’s greed pure & simple.

I don't think that applies to all shops, only some.
