    It must be Punk.

Punk is still under contract to UFC.

Re Neville - nothing has changed. He wants to leave but they don't want to release him.

I would expect they'll keep him on ice for a few months yet.

UFC let their fighters do pro wrestling if they want. UFC would be glad to be rid of him I reckon anyway.

Zero indication Punk has the slightest bit of interest in wrestling again. You’re right when you say UFC would probably let him go, that’s the point: he’s still training. He doesn’t want to go. Now we don’t know what’s gone on behind closed doors, but it doesn’t look like he’s passionate about wrestling anymore. He may need the money to fund his lawsuit with WWE? But this is a self-financed show run by someone who earned far less money in wrestling than he did. He may want to stick it to WWE? But why would he do a one-off show instead of signing for an actual potential competitor like NJPW?

Also do UFC let their talent wrestle? When Brock crossed over, that was Vince allowing him to. When Ronda made an appearance, she wasn’t allowed be in a match and now is essentially retired from MMA so free to do as she likes. When Conor was flirting with the idea, it was immediately shot down by Dana.

It’d be interesting if Punk was on this, but it’s nothing more than a pipe dream for now.

He's good friends with the lads so he might just want to help them out. Looks like it's going to be in Chicago too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,689 ✭✭✭sky88

If its punk in chicago itll sell out no doubt.

But i cant see him coming back but you never know. Is he still friends with them as it seemed like he cut a lot of wrestlers out when he left.

I wonder would they reach out to hogan which ive heard the bucks mention before but could have been tounge in cheek

If they dont get a big name like punk itll be very intresting the ticket sales to just see how over they are.

I'd be very surprised if they can't get punk to appear on a show for 10 minutes, even for a promo.

Per Dave Meltzer, Kenny Omega staying put with New Japan Pro Wrestling until January 2019.
As far as Omega goes, on 1/9, he signed his new contract so it is official he’s with New Japan through January 31, 2019, so he won’t be in the Royal Rumble this year (or next year), or WrestleMania, which no doubt won’t keep people from speculating on his role in those shows daily

    Excellent news.

did he not sign a 2 year deal last year when all the rumors of him at the rumble came up which would be 2019 already

you would think new japan would start signing the wrestlers to longer term deals especially omega

I honestly don't know if he did, could be a rolling deal he has with New Japan.

maybe hard to know with a lot as there was a lot of bullcrap floating around about his contract last year

ive always wondered how much the top earners get in new japan as it has to be well but never hear numbers being reported

Lesnar was getting 50,000 per match years ago, so quite a lot I'd imagine.

has there ever been a man in wrestling to maximize his worth than lesnar

    Hogan and Nash

    Hogan and Nash

Hogan maximised his worth. Was Nash worth much to any company he was in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭Jerichoholic

No, but he got as much money as possible everywhere he went.

He was worth a lot to WCW. The nWo angle relied on both Hall & Nash. Had it been, I dunno, Virgil & John Tenta in those roles, even with Hogan it doesn't resonate as well.

Certainly his pay was bloated for the rest of his career based on what was functionally one strong run, but he still deserves his share of the credit for that run.

I had not heard CM Punk was close with the Young Bucks or Cody. Given how much he has distanced himself from the vast, vast majority of people in wrestling it surprises me. What's the source on this? Are their recent pics on social media?

I would echo Leggo's statements. He was at Roufusport last week. The guys in the camp talk about his commitment to being part of the team. There's nothing that indicates he would consider going back to wrestling at this point.

I've been taken aback by just how disinterested Punk seems in professional wrestling now based on interviews he's given recently. Genuinely sounds like he's moved on and isn't looking back.

That said, in a decade's time or less I doubt he'll be refusing the HOF treatment. It will take a lot given how they treated him on his wedding day alone, but I'm certain he'll go in. He might just be the first star that will need someone acting on Triple H's behalf just as he has acted on Vince's behalf for years. :D

Nothing surprises me in wrestling, but Punk seems like he wont be back ever, but who knows. Things change.

I think he tweeted the Bucks about something or said he was still tight with them, something like that. This wouldn't be Punk going back full time remember, just a once off.

It's a case of "never say never".

Bruno Sammartino for example just off the top of my head..

Oh you're right, Punk just seems too proud, but stranger things have happened.

Just re the Omega contract situation, his contract wasn't renewed last year as he signed a 2 year contract in 2017. All the WWE talk was Kenny working everyone and keeping his namr out there while he took time off after Wrestle Kingdom. So it will be up for renewal in 2019 and I'd expect him to re-sign at that time too.

Pride goes before the fall. Now that said we definitely won't see Punk back before the end of this decade.

It's kinda like the GN'R reunion, the rumours flew around for years, but Axl wouldn't budge and soldiered on with different line-ups, then towards the end of December 2015, it all fell into place. Come April 1st 2016, lo and behold 23 years later, Slash was back in the band.

Not sure how I went from Punk to Guns N' Roses :pac: there's a point there somewhere.

Really really feel for Paige. Anyone who heard her passion and emotion on Lillian Garcias show a few weeks back will be impacted by this. Obviously she has made some questionable choices in her life but she is a young woman who didn’t have much of a childhood just trying to find her way in the world, and now her true passion has been taken away from her. Just brutal news.

    Pro Wrestling & MMA World

    #MarkHenry has officially retired

The World Strongest Man” Mark Henry is officially retired. The news, first reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, was expected because Henry has said publicly that he would not be signing another “active performer” deal with the #WWE company and he’s talked about wanting to do other things outside of wrestling.

The 46-year old hasn’t wrestled a match since the Andre The Giant Battle royal at last year’s WrestleMania. In fact, he only wrestled 3 matches last year (#RoyalRumble, #WrestleMania, and a match on #RAW to put over #BraunStrowman)

Trying to catch up on the news and reading this thread is very confusing. Loads of chat which we all like to do including me!

So could I ask a mod to make 2 threads? A thread just strictly for the News and Rumours and another thread with News and Rumours Discussion?

    Just an idea!!!

From reading this thread I see Paige is supposed to be retired as well as Mark Henry. Are these confirmed?

What is going on about Meltzer?? Sorry for being out of the loop!!

Some would hang you out to dry for all of that,....

That first sentence there would suggest to me why this isn't a hugely covered topic here.

I'm going to start splitting threads off from this one, we have perhaps been too leniant with the NO CHAT rule in recent times as we don't wanna be taking mod action against posters for simply chatting. Nothing wrong with starting a new thread to discuss new items posted here if you think people would be interested .
