    Hey guys,

After visiting today, we're hoping to go with Markree for our big day.
We'd love to hear from anyone whose had their reception there or attended one since the re-opening. We're specifically looking for feedback on the food. What did you have? What was the standard like?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I'm in the same boat - any feedback at all would be so appreciated!

I attended a wedding there a few months ago.

    Pros:
    - Beautiful castle and grounds
    - They have a wolf hound!! A "puppy" when we were there, but he was already massive :)
    - It was a great venue for the afters, with loads of different areas to explore. You didn't feel stuck in just the one place.
    - The main I had at the dinner (lamb) was beautiful. I don't remember food from many of the weddings I've been to, but I remember that.

    Cons:
    - Whatever way the rooms were laid out for the dinner, we literally couldn't see the wedding party and didn't know where they were seated. This was fine for the most part, but couldn't see a thing when the speeches were going on. This really took away from the experience as we didn't feel a part of it at all. We even missed the cake being cut (no announcement, it just happened between courses without us being aware of it).
    - The rooms in the castle were lovely, but we were on the ground floor near the afters, so our room was a bit noisy when we were trying to sleep later in the evening.
    - Very very poor phone reception - we literally couldn't get a signal for most of the time we were there (and I don't just mean data, I mean no phone signal whatsoever). This wasn't an issue for us, but could be a concern for people with kids at home.
    - While the main for dinner was divine, I couldn't eat 2 of the other courses due to a food intolerance. Now I honestly don't remember if we were asked about any food issues ahead of time (I would normally flag it when asked, but it was my partners friends so the message may not have reached me). When I realised I couldn't eat the starter, I said it to the wait staff and asked them to take away the course. I wouldn't have expected an alternative starter at short notice, but they would've had plenty of time to organise an alternative for the dessert (even a bit of fruit), but no such offer was made.

All in all I felt the pros outweighed the cons though. Probably the nicest wedding we've been to this year (and there were a lot!!).

    Hi

I would love to hear from others that have been to Markree Castle for a wedding recently.

    Positives/negatives please.

Very confused with venue searching & not sure what vibe I would like!

    Thank you.

    Hi all

Just wondering for anyone that went with Markree how did you spend the next day?
I would love to have a second day with a small crowd but I am not sure where to go in the area? Would love to hear some feedback.

    Thanks

We are having our day 2 in Markree. In the area, I would say Castledargan or maybe Molly Fultons.
Personally, I'd recommend going into Sligo Town for it so there is a bit more buzz. We are having our bridal party and close family dinner in Coach Lane the night before which has incredible food and a lovely atmosphere but depends what you're after.
