Anyone know is it possible or what's the easiest way to give bitcoin as a gift? Want to give 50 euro worth as a present

Create a new Electrum wallet. Write down the key words that enable a wallet to be reconstituted. Send coin to the wallet or buy coin using the wallet. Give the recipient the piece of paper with the key words on it and tell them to Use Electrum to recover a wallet using the key words. Delete the original wallet when they have it sorted.

Not sure now is a great time given the very hefty fees, which make moving anything less than thousands worth a very expensive process, proportionately. Litecoin would be a better option in terms of the fees.

I found some bitcoin I had in a localbitcoins wallet from 2012, does this mean I qualify for all the forks such as bitcoin cash and this superbitcoin?

Yes, you have Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold.

Not sure how I check that to be honest

Search on blockchain.info for that block number.

The timestamp seems to suggest that it was mined at 2017-12-12 10:29:53, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Excellent! Is it hard to claim if I've moved this btc to a ledger nano?

Coinbase is acting the maggot, I've been trying to buy more coin since yesterday morning and won't let me. My colleague also set up an account 4/5 days ago and they still haven't verified his identity! Anybody else experiencing similar issues?

Generate a Bitcoin paper wallet with a QRCode for public address and private key. Stick the printed paper wallet into an xmas card. Send your Bitcoin gift to the paper wallet public address. Job done.

Loads of videos on youtube on how to generate a paper wallet.

    +1
Also keep multiple backups until you know the recipient knows what to do with the gifted BTC.

Are there no Bitcoin ATMs in Ireland that give you the Bitcoin on a paper wallet?

GSM solutions on jervis st Dublin are listed as having an atm. I believe you need to have a wallet setup first but generating a paper wallet and sending to it should not be too hard. As said on a previous post there are loads of YouTube videos on how to create a paper wallet. Personallly I would buy via an exchange but that is a different topic and may not suit your needs.

Been broken for years. Now you have to fill out a load of your details and they charge a ten percent fee.

Very much the same here, similar story on all the big exchanges from what I can see. Kraken moved me up from tier 0 to tier 1 this morning, so hoping for tier 2 soon enough.

Edit: Coinbase verification came through this afternoon, took at 24 hours all in FWIW.

You can trade on Binance up to 2 BTC with no verification documents.

Here comes the run to 20k, and then hopefully a pause to drag ETH to $800 (or even $1k?) after it as it has been doing lately.

What are the best options for withdrawing money. Convert to Euro on exchange -> Sepa Transfer to bank account?

Won't that incur a big international receiving fee on the Euro account end or do the likes of Coinbase send from a European account?

Any other ways to go about getting it back into your possession in Euro?

Coinbase - Sepa out - 15c fee for the transfer.

Is it worth investing in bitcoins now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,713 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

That is entirely down to you, your personal circumstances and your investment philosophy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,861 ✭✭✭keano25

I don't have a clue about bitcoins to be honest. I'm just curious if that you were to buy 1 bitcoin now would you make a loss or profit on it in the near future or is a total gamble in that no odds of possibility are known.

If everybody knew it would continue rising everybody would own it.
People who hold through downturns tend to appreciate the idea behind it and maybe get to reap benefits if more people start appreciating that idea.

It looks likely to rise. It may crash to $1000 over the course of a week - something devastating would have to happen, but it's possible.
