Good spotwink.png. Them sort of pictures can be deceptive in fairness.

There is also a very sinister looking white pussy in the 1st pic....

I'd let that one slide. I like white pussiestongue.png

That's about 400 worth of tax, so that's 850 for the car before the haggle. Tax and insurance will be the killer here for such a great bus!

I can't see insurance being an issue. Should be nice and cheap insurance profile for an auto Volvo estate. Probably as low a risk as you will get (Saabs too are very low in insurance)

I know these IS220d yokes have their faults... I still like em

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Yeah I think they look nice. Don't know if I could risk a diesel based on all the horror stories on here but there are plenty still around so they must be "ok".

I'd love a 2.5 petrol auto one. It's a good likely contender for my next car.

15 years old in less than a month might sadly be an issue though.

I thought that too about saab's. I was ranging from 625 to 1800. A broker said because its a "sport model". Nothing sporty about the car really, its just got 'linear sport' in the title

Likely taxed as a taxi so which means it's essentially untaxed for a private punter

Which means it's not 15 years old yet. Should be grand for insurance now and renewal next year of a car then 15 years old has never been a problem. Don't wait with buying it until it is 15 years old next month though :D

It was for me. Insurance went up by €400 euro and because the car was over the self destruct 15 year age limit I could not shop around to get a better deal as hardly no isurance company would go near it.

Axa? They've quoted older cars for me.
Also, folk should double check if they've any access to a "membership" insurance. e.g. my employer has a deal with a broker who sells insurances (car, travel, home) to employees. Ends up with an Allianz policy, and I haven't had problems with old vehicles, and the rates have been very competitive. What's also nice is that the quote model is pretty straight-forward: engine CC and value of vehicle being the key drivers between cars as opposed to random trigger words like "sport" or vehicle brands leading to premium explosion. I had access to this for years, but only looked into it properly last year and was by far the cheapest quote I got.

I know some unions or professional associations also have affinity schemes. e.g. Engineers Ireland http://www.engineersireland.ie/membership/affinity-schemes.aspx?wb48617274=48A47370
    Credit Union: https://www.creditunion.ie/whatweoffer/insurance/carinsuranceroi/
    IMPACT trade union: https://www.cornmarket.ie/product/impact-car-insurance/
Don't know how good the deals work out on each of these (prices, T&Cs, etc.,), but a friend in one of the public-services unions was showing me a quote he'd gotten and it was decent and much like my own.

Did they specifically say it was because of the cars age? A lot of people have been hit with renewals that were several hundred more than they paid the year before, regardless of age of the car.

And 15 years is the magic number for me. Means I can add the car to my classic policy :D

Any additional car is about €100 per year, fully comp. And I'm further building NCB, and I don't have a policy on a normal car - happy days :D

This is a legacy policy though, these terms no longer apply for new business...

Miles are a bit high, but it has test to 9/18 and a bit of tax into the new year for €1100. Budgeting for a good interior valet its still pretty good value if it check out okay

My insurance was slightly cheaper this year. I renewed in September and the car had hit the awful 15 the previous April. I'm with Aviva.

I had planned to keep it a few more years but came into a few bob and bought a lovely Mazda 6 to make the motorway a bit more comfortable.

Traynors have one for £570 incl. VAT. That car could be on the road for €3,000 or very little more than that.

Hmmmm ... would it fit under my Christmas tree?

    And near 2k for Tax!

I like this thread and yeah there’s no mention of tax price in the rules...

But in reality if your searching for a car under the 2k mark(I am at the moment) your not going to entertain models that attract a huge tax bill... or anything 15 years old that seem to attract a huge insurance bill.
    Marty.
