Virus scanner /malware protection in android, do we need it?

    Are you using any security apps on your tablet or phone?
    I haven't to date but think maybe it's a good idea now. I'm loathed to add anything that will affect the performance of my tablet though.
    Does anyone recommend anything that won't slow your device too much?

    For Android I use the free Sophos Mobile Security .... have not noticed any detrimental impact so far ...

    Just my 2 cents worth :)

    If you're installing stuff from Google Play, then no.

    If you're sideloading APKs from third party sources (legal or otherwise) or you're using alternative appstores, then it's not the worst idea to use an extra layer of protection.

    I don't, so I have no recommendations. If you're just using Google Play, then you'll be fine.

    It's not just that. There are still quite a few dodgy websites around as well as links (random Facebook post, email attachments and even some adverts) that could infect your device.

    As Always, use common sense.
