I also got an Ultimate in a Warehouse deal for £58.54 on the same date.

Your right that's what I paid as well. Thought it was more to be honest :pac:

Is that the main strip with the plug or a 2m extension?

I've been keeping an eye out for a second Nest outdoor camera. E-Mail from Nest this morning with €50 off bringing it to €179 but Amazon have reduced it by £10 since last night so its down to £159 at present....just wondering if its going to drop again?

Also looking for the Nest Protect but no movement on the Nest website (unless you're buying a 3 pack of Battery powered -£38). Amazon holding steady still at £99......hopefully theyl'll drop in the next day or so,

    D.

How do you find the nest outdoor camera? Especially the night vision?
I’m in the market, but was thinking it might be better to go for a tradition Hikvision as much better night vision and picture quality.
Also not sure how I’d get power to the nest....? I can feed the trad camera with PoE from the attic......not ideal either as I live in a 2 story house......interested in how you’ve found it..?

It's the same as everything I suppose in that it serves my purpose and it does what i need it to do. I've no other camera system to compare it to so the opinions below are my own and others may reccomend different systems as an alternative.

The notification from the camera I feel is brilliant including the person alerts. I initially had the nest without the monthly fee, but after a couple of months felt that having the 10 day history, video playback and person notifications was needed. Night vision is ok.....not HD but good enough to make out faces, license plates etc. I already had external sockets outside so it was merely a case of plug and play.

I live on a rural cul de sac and have the camera erected to the front of my house approx 25 metres from the road covering the entire front of my site. I have set up zones and this works very well, i get app notifications if anything moves within the driveway zone but anything outside of this, i.e. the roadway outside gets flagged within the app so that i can check back later if needed. You can register your mobile with the app and the camera knows that you are at home and doesn't send notifications etc. I can also record short clips as needed and share via various platforms.

I feel they are expensive but for ease of use and the notification system, they tick all of my boxes. I've shown the app and live view on my phone to a lot of friends and again they are impressed at the quality of the picture and the notification system. We recently set up the Nest thermostat on our heating and will also install a couple of Nest Protects so I suppose I have bought into the Nest system.

Btw the second Nest camera is currently on its way from Amazon, I finally pulled the trigger yestreday and purchased af £149.

    Hope that helps.

    D.

Argos are doing 3 for 2 on selected Philips Hue bulbs........

However, Argos prices for Hue bulbs are already ludicrously expensive, and they usually only ever have 1 or 2 of the bulbs you want in stock at a particular store.

So pretty much nothing to see here...

I wouldn’t do it, plug is a PIA, as far as I remember transistor (right term?) is built into Eu plug so not a simple re-wiring job to fit irl plug so you’ll be stuck with a gamy and bulky adapter

The photo on amazon site shows it coming with a GB/IRL 3 pin plug plate to switch over the 2 pin EU version.....

Transistor will do, transformer, plus a few other components. I was asked to check out a brand new dashcam which had died, the owner had cut the cigar lighterplug off and wired it direct. Problem was the plug brought the car 12+volts down to 5. No more dashcam.

Is this a good deal on the TP-Link HS110?

https://www.powercity.ie/?par=20-27-HS100 €29.95 from powercity, usually 24.95. Or if your going to be using it to control a lamp you can just buy the bulb https://www.powercity.ie/?par=20-27-LB110

Yes, very good, (BTW I have one and recommend it). The cheapest it has ever been is £23, but this looks like a good deal.

Also the HS100 is reduced to £20 if you don't need energy monitoring:

Note that is the HS100, not the HS110 (includes energy monitoring) linked above.

The HS100 is currently £20 on Amazon.

One thing to keep in mind, all the Brexit stuff has had pushed up prices in general in the UK. We might not see the same low prices this time around.

Could I use this and integrate it into a routine along with some Hue lights? I have two Hue lights in the front room and a standard uplight. My Mrs is always saying that we need more light in the front room and it would be cool if we could integrate the uplight with this smart plug into the routines with the Hue lights.

The other option would be to get a Hue bulb for the uplight but Im pretty sure its an odd size and not one that Philips do in teh Hue range.

Sorry one more question. can these smart plugs be plugged into a plug board rather than directly into the mains?

Probably easiest to check the fitting type of the uplight and see if Hue have one or if you might be able to change it to a fitting that Hue takes.

You could integrate both the TP-Link plug and Hue lights into one routine using a service like Stringify or Yonomi. You don't mention how you plan to trigger the routine? If voice, then stringify can probably do it, if Hue switch, then no.

You mean off an extension cable? Then sure, I do.

If you mean an extension as bk pointed out, then yes. I got 3 of them last night and set them all up via an extension but bear in mind that they are oversized and will probably block the socket next to them. I had to space them in sockets 1-3-5.

I bought them on a 3 for 2 last night on John Lewis. I have the order set to deliver to PM so fingers crossed that they don't cancel the order.
