Funny how these are much the same as I get from my old Celica and my wife’s current but smaller Peugeot. Although I prefer petrol to drive economy doesn’t seem to have improved much over the years yet emissions have fallen. But then are they real emissions?

Did you notice a slight size difference between the Celica and 5008?!

Official emission figures are different, but real world CO₂ will be the same - it is directly related to fuel economy. But there is much more to emission than CO₂...

Quite but actually the weight difference is ‘only’ 150kg so not massive. And the engine was an old 1.8 vvti so you would assume it drank more than a new 1.2 but apparently not that much. Just surprised that petrol economy has not increased dramatically like diesel seems to have done. That said I will still be getting a petrol!

I remember having a Peugeot 405 in red, jesus it was slow, but did 600 miles to the tank and that was a 1.9 diesel I think. My old 406 Coupe (I loved that car) had a 2l petrol and funny enough is near identical weight to the 1.6 petrol 5008, that car did 35mpg. So anecdotally on that massive amount of evidence right there you could be deemed right, however I don't think Diesel has made massive strides either, incremental at best decade on decade, but what do I know!! Major major strides have been made on paper to fuel efficiency!
That being said, I had a conversation with my Dad about the 1.2 Puretech engine and it being 3 cylinder, he was in awe but was very sceptical when I said it could be good for 40mpg in the 5008.

PS. You'd swear I owned a lot of French cars, add a Xantia and that's it, Im not for or against the French (-:

Aerodynamic drag influences the efficiency as well. 5008 will have it bigger than any Celica or 406 ;) It is less important in city driving, when the mass prevails, but in extra-urban driving it is a very important factor.

Don't get me wrong - I am not saying we made a gigantic progress over last years when it comes down to real life economy of real cars. There are small improvements, but the cars got bigger, heavier and more powerful... Compare the figures of different seven seaters from 10 years ago - like a Avensis Verso - and you get 25% less efficiency.

And let's not forget that quality of the exhaust gases changed as well.

Yeah I know, and to be honest, getting anything from 45-50mpg in something the size of the new 5008 I think is doing pretty good!

I happened to be passing my local Peugeot dealer yesterday, so stopped to have a look at the 5008 for the first time in the flesh.

It's a nicely finished car, but from what I could tell without measuring, the space across the 3 middle seats looks less than our S-Max. The seats themselves look quite small, but I can see that at least having 3 isofix points means families with small children can fit 3 child seats. Unlike the Kodiaq - although I don't think there is actually really any more space in the 5008, just a better seat configuration.

The reason I mention this is that back at the start of the year when we were buying, I was keeping an eye on the forthcoming 5008 and Kodiaq wondering if they would work for us. We have three larger kids, with only one using a booster base, and I think in the end I made the right decision with the S-Max's bigger seats.

We were moving from an old S-Max and my kids, who are only going get bigger, will need more space than either the 5008 or Kodiaq offer.

Yep Smax is bigger and is a great family car, no secret there!

Very true S Max is bigger and we looked at it. But I didn’t like the 2 litre auto petrol and couldn’t get on with the diesel either. But then 5008 is trying to be an SUV which the SMax isn’t. I think in the end the 5008 is for younger children and the S Max is for teenagers. So we will no doubt look for that or an equivalent in 7 or 8 years time but I would say is a slightly different market. If you are PCPing then the answer may be different but for an outright purchase then you have to make a call in what is good for a number of years.

For whatever reason someone in Finland put a 5008 in a race circuit. Looks fun but unfortunately I have no idea what he is on about :pac:

Booked myself the Allure 1.2 Petrol earlier this week, hope to take ownership early January. We haven’t driven the Petrol but the 1.6 Diesel felt great and the general review consensus is that the 1.2 feels as good if not better. Will work well for our mileage needs.

Very excited about the space, we’re in a Focus at the moment and with number 2 on the way we need more room. Couldn’t face a classic MPV and absolutely love the look of the 5008.

Interior finish is incredibly crisp too.

Well done, which colour? Myself, I’ve had to drive 4 versions before making a decision but good on you for going for it. Note to oneself - have to be more decisive..

Haha, it's hard to make a decision for something as expensive as this. I went through a circle as well, 1.6 diesel, down to 1.2 petrol, back to 1.6 diesel until I decided for the 1.6 Petrol. My car will be here in theory 3rd week of January, can't wait at this stage.

Decided to be super flamboyant and go for the grey! I’d have gone for the white but since my other half will be the real owner she got to make the call. I think the dark grey blends with the black trim best so happy enough.

I just want to drive it now and also to play around with the icockpit

Peugeot in a few countries has a black friday event. Do you think we 'll see anything here?

Peugeot are really unreliable, just because it looks good doesn't mean anything.

Best of luck with it, personally wouldnt touch a pug, theyve a poor name around here, but mysteriously still sell..and i really hate those hesdlamps...overstyling for the sake of it, the rest of the car is plain dull..

Sigh... and you drive an exiting looking German brand no doubt. This is a 7 seater we are talking about and I think they’ve done a good job, no it isn’t a sports car and isn’t meant to be.

As for reliability my wife has had a Peugeot for 7 years no trouble at all. If you have too then feel free to comment otherwise it’s just hearsay.

Where’s “round here”? There’s a few places I’ve a bad name myself so this might be the car for me.

In all honesty when we were looking at cars we couldn’t find anything to touch this for our needs. Comfort and drive are really good, interior is excellent for the cost and my missus was sold as soon as she loaded the baby into the car seat, perfect height. We really needed space and with the seats 6 and 7 down it’s huge for buggies and bags.

For my own part I just tried to look past the badge because I would have historically done the “never buy a French car” thing, I think the car looks different to the rest in its class which is important to me given I’m spending a lot of cash and what to feel like it’s a new car. That was what put me off the Kodiaq, it just seems dated.

Well after dithering for a few months, I went ahead and ordered a 1.2 Active today which will be ready in mid/late Jan. I currently have a 131 5008 and I was looking at going to a Tucson or Qashqai but as nice as they were to drive, they just don't have the same space, I love the 3 individual seats and the massive boot space and I'd miss it.
Have ordered the cummulus grey, but also like the Nimbus grey

Why did you own one? I know a few people with them and they have been good cars lovely to drive too. All french cars are much much better these days.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

You can on UK spec (pano roof is an option on the GTLine at 870 pounds) but you would need to weigh up the cost of importing.

Has anyone worked out the cost or importing yet, can't see any for sale in the UK

I don't think the panoramic roof is a huge issue. I am 6.1 and I could sit just fine on the back. Granted I didn't have a lot of room but I wouldn't be jumping around if I was sitting on the back. Also, you can tilt the seat back and the issue is much better. Sure at the size of the car I d prefer a better headroom but unless you constantly put 6.3 foot guys on the rear seats, it's a non-issue.

Has anyone actually tested putting 3 child seats in the middle?

I test drove a 5008 Active yesterday and its definitely a contender for me, but the 3 individual seats in the middle look quite small.

I have a 6 year old in a high back booster, a 3 year old in a larger high back booster with a harness and a baby in a baby seat.

I currently drive a Kia Sportage and have to have the 6 year old in the front with my wife squashed between the 2 other kids in the back.

I love the look of the 5008 and hate the look of any MPV I've ever seen, so I was excited when the new 5008 was announced, but after seeing the middle row in person yesterday, I'm begining to wonder. I wouldn't want to have to use the back row all the time.

Would love to hear peoples experiences of putting 3 seats accross the middle of the new 5008.

Yes. Three isofix child seats fit side by side. No problem.

Great! Thanks... I didn't have the car seats with me yesterday and will be a few weeks before I get a chance to get back in to test it myself.
But I may have just found my next car! :D
