    Hi,
i am getting a gas hob shortly (for the 1st time) and I don't know much about getting refill, deposit for the 1st gas cylinder, ecc ecc

I was told there is Flogas and Calor gas (in galway) and it would be better to get delivery for the 34kg propane cylinder due to weight

Is there a big price difference between the 2 ( Flogas and Calorgas)

    quality in service?

Is it better to get 11kg or a 34kg gas cylinder?

or both . the 34kg to use regularely and the 11kg as emergency back up
(eg Xmas day , 34kg empty and no way of cooking lunch!)

Get two 34Kg cylinders, that way when one is empty (runs out) you can swap to the other and replace the empty unit at leisure.
Don't try to mix sizes as the fittings are different.

We have a 5 ring gas hob feeding a family of four. A 34kg lasts about 8 months so I wouldn’t worry about running out. I have a changeover valve so I can connect 2 x 34kg cylinders so when one runs out it automatically changes over to the full one but to be honest I only have one cylinder connected at a time. They are about €80 each so I don’t fancy leaving €80 worth of gas sitting out my back garden for months on end.

Contacted both (calor and FloGas) but got more and quicker info from FloGas so far

€60 service charge (empty cylinder) and €94 for the 34KG cylinder delivered (refill). would that be a standard price? good, bad?

€94 is dear. I paid €80 about 2 months ago. Your obviously being charged for delivery so if you can collect yourself you will save money. Both suppliers issue shops etc with price lists for their gas but if you look at the small print the prices are collected so if your getting the shop to deliver it your at their mercy for delivery costs. Both companies won’t supply you direct they will put you in touch with one of their authorized distributors.

Are you aware you have to pay a 65 euro additional charge the first time? The 80 euro price is only applicable if you have a cylinder to return.

I had a look online and the refills are between 78-85 euro, so shop around :)

    Best of luck!

How did you get on? Did you get delivered due to weight?
