He is indeed the oldest. Kieran McGeeney held that honour up until tonight as far as I know.

Have to say, massive congrats to Andy Moran, he's been immense all year. Thought that McCarthy might have pipped him myself, but you can't really argue with it, well deserved.

Delighted for the Ballagh man and fully deserved. Gives hope to all footballers in their so called twilight years that it's never over til it's over... Handy few quid made for myself to boot :pac:

I'm very happy for Moran but i have to say I'm really delighted for David Clarke. To me he had a stellar year and is most deserving of the no 1 All Star award.

He's the favourite with PP, 9/2. I had a small bet on him the other day at 25s.:)

I think I'm allowed a bit of aftertiming here.:P Course I'm kicking myself I didn't put more than a fiver on, or get round to the bet when it was still 50/1...

    Castlebar Mitchels 0-16 Mohill 0-11

Workmanlike display by Mitchels after a very spirited performance by Mohill.Great comeback by the Leitrim men to tie it up at 9 each but Mitchels pushed on.Toulestrane up next,a big step up required to compete for further honours.

Tooreen have won the Connacht intermediate hurling championship beating Ballinderren of Galway.
So becoming the first Mayo team to accomplish it.

    Tooreen 1-15 Ballinderren 1-11

They'll face the Leinster champions in January.

Carnacon won their replay, unfortunately Moy Davitts came up short against Michael Glaveys.

I thought one or two other Mayo players were in with a shout for All-Stars. Jason Doherty could consider himself unlucky after playing probably his best season. There's a lot to be said for giving players a rest on the bench for a few games so they come back rejuvenated. But Andy winning the overall prize made up for it and very well deserved.

We're probably not all that far away from team rotation becoming a much bigger aspect of the GAA. Particularly with the Super 8s being implemented. The same starting 15 from one game to the next will become much more of a rarity amongst the top sides, and top players will be tactically held in reserve. Look at Eddie Jones and the English Rugby Team

I suspected at the time there was much more method to Rochford's madness in not starting Boyle/AOS and taking Andy off early against Galway, and despite Mayo having a few close shaves in the back door, all 3 arguably went on to become the 3 most important players all year

I'm a fan of Rochfords but I wouldn't give him credit for that. Aidan was carrying an injury for Galway, I'm almost certain Rochford himself said that Boyle was left out in favour of Vaughan(s physicality) for Galway(s forwards) and taking off Andy was just a bad call, especially after he had just scored that fine point. Rochford should have been in like a shot to cancel the sub imo.

I thought Tom Parsons was the player who really stood out for me.He was very unlucky to lose out,Kevin McLoughlin had his moments too.

But there's a crazy amount of competition for all those positions.

International rules is on Saturday night at the unearthly hour of 5 AM!

    Castlebar Mitchels 1-13 Toulestrane 0-9

Solid display from the Mitchels in overcoming a spirited challenge.Danny Kirby put in a great hour and Neil Douglas's freetaking off the ground was impeccable in the second half.Tourlestrane's freetaker was none too shabby either,he only missed one over the hour.

Fair play to Pat Harte who is still togging out for the Sligo champions.

Next stop Tuam where hopefully we can overcome Corofin.
