just seen this, did you bother going with it in. the end?

No I haven't decided yet if I am going to go for it.

What delivery date were you given? I was told 2-3rd week of January the car should be here.

What do you need alarm for? The only thing it can achieve is annoying the neighbours.

Well that's a good question, is it something that's needed?

What counter measures are in place if an alarm is not fitted?

What happens to an Insurance quote when you say NO to the standard question of 'does it have an alarm and an immobiliser?'

    Perhaps not a lot, I don't know!

I think the 1.6THP are a special order, the 1.6 HDI should arrive quicker.

I just did two test quotes in 123 and fbd, none of them had any difference between immobilizer alone or a combination of alarm/immobilizer.

It's sad I know but the 2018 reg is worth a bit to me so they're holding it.

Hi All, was following this forum post and was able to glean a lot of useful info about the 5008. Thanks to all the posters for their valuable insights. Was debating for a while between this car and the Skoda Kodiaq. Eventually was swayed by two points in favor of the Peugeot.
    1. This is available now whereas the Skoda probably only in May or later.
    2. The second row of seats is genuinely a 3 seater compared to the Skoda which is a 2.5 at a squeeze.

Have taken the plunge and booked one (GT Line 1.6 Blue HDi auto) and expecting delivery mid Nov.

Good man yourself. Having looked at both extensively, I genuinely believe the Peugeot is the better car. It really is style and substance, something you may not have been able to say in the past!

Thanks @SmithySeller! I remember a few years ago reading stories of people with massive reliability issues with Peugeot cars. There was even one recently of a guy who took a new 3008 for a long drive (I will try to find and post that here) and had all sorts of issues with the infotainment center (volume could not be reduced, alarm going off etc). I have also read elsewhere about the infotainment center having to charge up (is that true?)

I guess it takes a marque a while to get rid of that kind of an image but it seems to be doing all the right things to do that.

Every article I've seen has given the infotainment centre a 4/5.

Has anyone priced one from the UK or northern ireland, they seem to be cheaper for the 1.6 petrol than going with any of the diesels.
I can't see any for sale in the UK.

I've had a good play with it, and in my opinion it's fine and was better than expected. The VAG derivative I think is better on this occasion, the 9" that is, but I also think that's the best on the Market.

I’m not a fan of any of the touchscreen when driving it’s a complete distraction. The Bmw iDrivre is the best of the bunch no prodding required.
I felt the Peugeot messed up a little as the switches are a great idea but gets fiddly when you add in the touchscreen, you flick a switch to bring up the heating menu then you have to poke the screen to turn it up or down, 2 switches one for hot or cold or a simple dial would be a lot
easier use than having to go at the screen while driving.
It’s a good system compared to others but I’d still only give it 2.5 out of 5 as the touchscreen is unnecessary for some functions you want to do quickly while driving.
I’d give the Volvo system 1 out of 5, all that safety gear will be needed when you look up from the screen and there’s a Scania badge heading straight for you.

I like the Audi system as the screen can be put away with the touch of a button.

Two switches for left side, two switches for right side... Two switches for fan strength, three switches for modes etc.

Soon enough you end up in this... Everything is just one click away :)

I tried but unless you drive it in the republic with more than 6k kms on the clock you will have to pay VAT as well on top of VRT.

Not conceived, eyes on the road and all that.. :)

4 sub menus and an options menu:confused: Give me a god dam dial and some buttons.

You don't have to pay the uk vat on a new car, but have to pay the Irish which is 3% more + the VRT.
The 1.6 petrol looks like a 2/3k saving. It's overpriced here, it's more expensive than the diesels.

Specc'ed the car in the peugeot.co.uk site. The exact same setup, plus the nav, comes at 34.5k pounds. And that includes the satnav plus the peugeot connect system. Damn are we getting screwed here...

    I agree entirely.
I have to say, manufacturers leaping aboard the touchscreen bandwagon is all style over substance. "Sure, why would you need any buttons, when everything on the screen?"

Some are better than others - our S-Max has everything on the touchscreen, but also provides just about enough buttons to adjust the heating controls separately. Given the choice I will ALWAYS go for a tactile button first which I can find without having to look at it.

Touchscreens are simply too imprecise - especially if there's no ledge in front to rest your wrist on when trying to keep your hand steady while driving and trying to aim for 1cm icon

Hell, I even dislike using a regular tablet touchscreen while seated comfortably at home! I'd much rather use a PC with a proper mouse and decent screen. :P

And of course the majority of people in Ireland and the UK who are right-handed are even further handicapped having to try to operate the fecking screen with their left hand! :(

Totally agree, my left hand is woeful, I always get Newstalk when trying to get Nova :p

I feel the Peugeot has done OK, apart from the UP/Down of the AC, I'm happy enough, good to see there are also a row of buttons below the Piano Keys for other things such as Windscreen demist etc.

In general though, I agree, without a shadow of a doubt touchscreens are dangerous on the move. I suppose it wont be long before gesture and voice take over, but right now they are terribly inaccurate.

How often do ye change the temperature on the A/C? I do it twice a year - in May (up one degree) and in October (down one degree). I don't need to see it ever again...

What I need during driving is:
    - cruise control - buttons are on the wheel
    - phone controls (answer call, reject call) - on the wheel
    - volume up/down, next/previous station - guess what... on the wheel.

There really is no point in having a humongous cluster of buttons anymore...

Rarely use the heating but to clear the window so the AC shouldn't bother me.

Roll on Jan. Hope going Diesel doesn't come back to bite me in the back side.

I drove the 1.2 petrol yesterday in the 3008, preferred it to the 1.6 diesel I drove in the 5008. Can’t really justify the diesel after driving both.
To get the 2k extra back for the diesel would take a long time and a lot of miles.

It's not the price. 1.2 not available in auto and wouldn't go near 1.6 petrol
