Obviously it says to wear sports clothes, so I guess that means everyone will show up wearing shorts and a t-shirt or equivalent? Or should I wear my tux? :p

Personally I went for full scuba gear to show I was really up for it!

With regards to directions, just make sure you know where your going. Definitely take a quick look at Google Street view. My satnav tried to take me to different but seemingly plausible location but luckily I sort of half knew where I was going.

    Hello all.
Back for another crack at the whip.
I see they have mixed up the IST this time (glad to see the back of the data/number tests).
    Time to get practicing.

Hey buddy, was hoping to see you back again :)

Glad (or bad) to see an old face hanging about.  How's you? What stage are you at these days?

Guys in regards to my appeal-for anyone else in the same boat-vetting have informed me that you response to the letter IS your appeal-so make sure to include EVERYTHING that is needed to support your appeal. I'm booked in for a consultation on thursday to get this nuisance of mine removed, I'm going to ask the clinic for a letter to back up that I have been to see them and roughly how long the removal process will be estimated to take, a small tattoo that cost me £20 now going to cost ten times that much, live and learn haha. Fingers crossed it all works out just glad I'm doing what I need to.

What score are you sitting at I've pca soon but haven't heard about vetting yet
    57.5

Females... what do you wear to familiarisation? Just standard gym stuff as in trainers, leggings etc? And do we just turn up like that? Also, in these places can you just drive in? Im so anxious about that, as in do you just drive up to the entrance and wait til they ask you who you are?

I'd just be wearing leggings and trainers for mine. I believe you can drive in but you need your id and the email. When you pull up they'll approach you

You are looking for loose/mobile, think of squaddies going over an assault course. I wore a pair of real light Karrimor walking trousers, trainers and t-shirt so that I looked ordinary on my way to and from the test location. In my experience it's always a good idea to keep your legs covered on any sort of assault course. You can go at it with more confidence when you're not worried about grazes or cuts. Remember you are crawling on the floor and combing over a wooden obstacle and you won't have time to be careful.

Drive in, get out and sign in with security and they'll advise you. Normally it's wait in your car until the PTI's come for you.

For familiarisation I would recommend wearing what you plan to do the PCA in. When I did mine I came from work and changed when I arrived. They have changing facilities there.

You can park across the street in the industrial park and walk in through the entrance. Loads do that and it's far handier.

Is the familarisation on groups or on your own?

Everyone in together. Kinda like play time for potential peelers.

They'll do a walk through of the course and allow you to try the various elements. Obviously no sneaky timed runs etc.

Just on that note, yes it is a big group - but don't be shy. The PTI's will tell you that you can try every aspect of the course until your hearts content (within reason of course) yet at mines their were people who were clearly intimidated/shy and refused to try things like the wall or the push/pull.
Yes there be 30+ people watching you have a go at the wall and yes it can be a little embarrassing but seriously forget they're there. This is your once chance to have a go before the real thing - use it wisely.

    What he said ^^^

Practise some techniques and learn some from others. Get chatting to the PTI's for some advice too. At the end of the day they want you to pass.

On the PTI's, I remember finding them very friendly and approachable. They do a lot towards making you feel at ease.

Im really small so the wall is the one thing I'm worried about, I'll be trying it don't care who is watching me. Cant say il be trying the push and pull cos I haven't a notion but I'm just going to see what everyone else does but I'm going to try what I can, certain things I know I don't need to try but others I definately do. How long does this session usually last?

I feel the same I'm quite short too and my biggest concern is the wall! I've my familirisation soon too I'm dreading it :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,640 ✭✭✭Homer01

Definitely ask for advice on that wall. If I remember it's a team effort for your body; your arms get it started and legs drive you up and over. It's all about finding a technique that works for you and doesn't leave you floundering like a beached whale.

A friend of mine is tiny and they passed it no probs. PTIs will show you the best technique.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 TERRYFOLDS

I found the wall hard too my technique was wrong, I was pulling with my arms too soon, keep your arms straight and get your foot on that second ledge before pulling and driving with your legs at the same time and throw your hanging leg over the top.

I’m in the same boat, hopefully we don’t need the 1710, I hate this waiting lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭WittyName291

Considering we are finished everything and they are still putting people through more stages in this recruitment they must plan on carrying on with utilising the rest of us. Bloody hope so lol. The 1710 application was hopefully just an unnecessary doomsday plan

I dread the thought of having to do the AC again!  Hopefully that call won't be too far into the New Year!
