I honestly would hold fire on the lasering. What if you get it lasered and they still reject it?

Why not ask for a meeting? Vetting fails used to be able to meet as far as i remember possibly a chief supt of assistant chief constable?

Could show how small it is, explain how much you want this and that you're willing to cover it/laser it?

Do you really feel like I should wait and appeal it first? I feel like if I start it will show how serious I am, to be honest I hate the tattoo anyway, so I don't care to get it removed. As I said I know I can cover it with makeup and I seriously do feel if I am put infront of someone they will see the passion I have for this-like us all it means everything to me.

That was my thought process. Show that your so committed you're already in the process of getting it removed/addressing the issue that's stopping you progressing. Especially if your not fussed on it in the first place. Bear in mind I've never been though the appeals process. Best of luck mate.

Thank you so much, think that I will stick to my instinct and show them I am willing to do that and take any steps necessary, I won't let this go easily, it is more than 'just a job'. I'm going to contact recruitment on monday to see is it an in depth appeal they need in writing and I will be booking my first session for the removal asap and also get written documentation to back up that I am getting it done aswell as the time frame to remove it. I'm feeling alot more positive than I was before, thanks so much

I would also start the removal process. If this doesn't work out then you're good to go for the new campaign.

Yeah def appeal it. I failed my medical and appealed. Took a while and I had to have an interview with the chief medical officer and he had to assess me. I start next month. I wasn't going to appeal as I thought it's not worth it. Boy was I wrong.

I am definately appealing it, because I know I am more than a tattoo. My letter states that to appeal I have to write to the independent assessor, do I just write and state that I want to appeal their decision? And then wait for them to contact me regarding what information etc they need? Obviously I don't want to go all guns blazing, it just sats if I want the decision reviewed I have to write within 14 days
When I appealed my medical it said that I needed to let them know within 14 days that I was appealing, I just sent an email saying that I wanted to appeal the decision. Then I had more time to get my evidence together and put in my proper appeal which was a report from a specialist.. I honestly don't know if the tattoo appeal policy is the same.

That is pretty much the same as the letter I receieved so I am going to call tomorrow morning and see what they say, should I just contact recruitment on 101 or do I need to contact vetting directly? I can remember seeing a post before about emailing them? The letter just has an address on it

Hey, I got the same letter as rlwni regarding a tattoo. I have read through the comments of advice and now I'm worried as I have already put my appeal letter in the post box. I didn't send it recorded delivery as the letter just stated to reply in writing to the address, will this be an issue?   :(  I'm absolutely gutted.

Contact recruitment and see what advice they give you and take it from there. Good luck. Hope it all goes well for you. I know how you feel. I got good advice on the boards about appealing and probably wouldn't have appealed if I hadn't been on here.

No it won't be an issue about recorded delivery. I would just recommend it so they can't say they didn't receive it within the 14 days.

To find out the situation with my PCA I'm gonna ring recruitment, do I just phone 101 and ask for recruitment? Thanks

Just off the phone, lady at recruitment was really lovely and helpful. Have to send in my request to appeal my vetting failure but still attend my PCA as I am still in the campaign. I really want this and I am just hoping and praying that this can all be resolved. Thank you so much for all the advice so far, I genuinely would be lost without the help and support on this board X

Great stuff. Absolute best of luck with it. It does sound like something that is appealable for sure.

One last question, how long does the familiarisation session for PCA last? And is it in a big group or what happens at it? Do they just let you have a go at the course or is it just to see what way it is done?

From what I have read, they let you try out each section of the course but you aren't allowed to run it or to time yourself.

This is correct. Practice at familiarisation. No practice on day of test though.

Guidance for the new campaign says that you get one or two timed runs

    Interesting change

    They are adapting

And guidance also states that everyone will be offered a familiarisation day before the PCA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 191 ✭✭KnightRider21

Was everyone not offered it before?

You got to test out sections at the familiarisation but on the pca day your straight in. Yea we got the familiarisation day too.

Guys in regards to my appeal-for anyone else in the same boat-vetting have informed me that you response to the letter IS your appeal-so make sure to include EVERYTHING that is needed to support your appeal. I'm booked in for a consultation on thursday to get this nuisance of mine removed, I'm going to ask the clinic for a letter to back up that I have been to see them and roughly how long the removal process will be estimated to take, a small tattoo that cost me £20 now going to cost ten times that much, live and learn haha. Fingers crossed it all works out just glad I'm doing what I need to.
