You get a smaller holster for concealed carry

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 412 ✭✭majgreen

Obviously but they are modular and can be placed on a belt. Some people buy there own stuff...

True - a lot of people buy their own equipment, however your head will be in the chopping block if anything goes wrong and you aren't using standard issue equipment. Ie negligent discharges of your firearm.

While we are on this topic I see the holsters they use on duty and they look awful big for off duty carry they would stick out like a sore thumb, do they supply discreet ones for off duty or would you just get your own?

The concealed carry holster is a lot thinner and more discreet, however it's not invisible and you still have to be conscious of wearing it and not flashing people

Without getting too into it for security reasons.. is the standard issue concealed under normal clothing with comfort or would it be pretty uncomfortable?

Not true, a pw shot herself in the leg not long ago inside a station and it was found that the retention cable had got caught inside her holster a pulled the trigger. She was found not at fault.

So we've gone from IST help to firearms training by banter.

I would probably focus on the application form and IST first :)

Applications open on Monday; good luck folks :D

By definition that wasn't a negligence discharge then was it because she wasn't negligent. Just unlucky

Glock's safety is on the trigger. Hands down one of the safest pistols in the world.

I've been shooting for well over 15 years, rifle and pistol. It's really hard for a weapon to fire by itself.

Gonna reiterate the point of how busy the servers will be on Monday.

Everyone and their mum will applying on Monday so the application portal is likely to crash and other bugs may arise.

There will be plenty of time to apply don't rush it, spend time making sure you have everything you need sitting beside you.

I would keep a list of your qualifications- dates obtained and any extra qualifications beside you. Have passport and licence nearby (I don’t know if they would ask ). No harm in having too much.
I presume questions will be “give an example of how you dealt with a difficult circumstance” and “give and example of how you work in a team setting”.
So what I am advising is think of as many scenarios as you can that will boost your application. Try and pull from real life examples and not B.S.

Have a think about why you want to be a peeler and what skills you have that you feel would make you suitable to be a constable.

Have a glass of water and some snacks beside you as well

Type out your answers to the above and have them sitting saved on your desktop so you can just copy and paste

    Remember.

    Empathy

    Listening

    Solving problems

    Keeping people safe

    Helping people

    Etc.

What we do well is what we do often.

    I have applied twice before.

I am a youth leader so the above advice is what I tell the kids reference their assessments etc.

I have been in a few assessment processes for other organisations and it is a game. You need to learn to play the game in order to beat the game. Not belittling the PSNI or Deloitte.

    Nope. AC once.

Failed IST because at that stage I did not know what it was like.

Just want people to avoid my mistakes.
