Two kite surfers rescued in Louth. Wtf were experienced kite surfers doing out in weather like this?

There were no kitesurfers out. There were a few windsurfers out in the morning a few hours before the storm. They weren't rescued, it was a false report by a member of the public that hadn't a clue about weather, wind, the sea and windsurfing.

There have been parts of this country that have been battered to bits, and people killed. Anyone coming to this thread specifically to tell others they are over reacting or to say just what a beautiful and sunny day it is in their area is just on a wind-up.

There is a fine line between having a laugh and utter twattery.

Its only hitting Dublin now. I imagine the tone of the "jokers" in the thread will change soon.

I think it has gone up around the coast.. it's just like a regular bad night here in Donegal. A bit of an anti climax. I might go for a pint later.

I'm in Inishowen, and (thus far) we've had worse days in high Summer. A bit blustery. I don't know if the worst is yet to come, but it's eerie up here - no vehicles on the roads. Please God I haven't spoken too soon. Sympathies to all those who've suffered today, not least the families of those 3 unfortunates.

Spent the day working on an emergency line. ****ing hard day. Fair dues to the road crews working out there tonight and over the next few days. Also major fair dues to the civil defence.

That's not fair. Nobody wants their roof to get taken off.

They're just upset that other people's roofs weren't taken off.

I'm 45 years of age . I've lived for 20 years on an isolated peninsula. I now live in town and have never heard or seen wind like I did today. So no it doesn't happen a few times a year.

Would you all advise against going for a run? I'm in Dublin and have cabin fever from being stuck inside all day.
Wind doesn't seem bad at the mo but not sure if the worst has passed?

Really hope you didn't go for this run. Not great in Dublin currently.

Cork (south coast) was one of the worst hit, the deaths were from Tipp Waterford and Louth. Must have been a lot of injuries we never heard about.

Horrible day. The people posting about it not being so bad kinda pissed me off to be frank about it.
If it wasn't so bad for you then just say nada and be grateful.

We lost five roof tiles and just praying that we dont get leaks now coz the chap I rang cant get to us til wendesday.

Fence took a battering too and maybe I can fix it myself or maybe I cant, I'm not sure yet.
Not sure how much all this will cost yet but I could have done without it.

Plus I'm self-employed and had to tell the lads to stay at home today and not likely to be able to get to work tomorrow myself now either coz the missus works tomorrow and there's every chance my folks wont fancy the journey tomorrow to mind them and I'm not going to force them.

So it's hugely difficult and I'm probably getting off light compared to others, and that's before you factor in the people who died and the families left without electricity for hours/days and then you scroll through the thread and see the occasional hero remarking upon being disappointed about how underwhelming the storm was.

Don't get me wrong, I like a few quick-witted remarks as much as the next guy, but its the ones that seem disappointed that this storm wasn't even worse that annoyed me.

Some people aren't right in the head at all!

Wow. Given they said last night they planned on operating all day-to-day that's quite the change. I have to say they really handled the situation today so badly. Complete incompetence really. Put trams on to get people in to work only to then leave them stranded. Ridiculous. Not only that, but it's not like the weather conditions came as some big shock either.

From experience ive found it doesnt take much to **** the luas system up. Literally some scumbag acting the bollox can slow the red line down for hours so a major storm was always gonna screw it up.

Heard something like there was damages to the depot which is why its not running.

Pretty much. The way it is now, if it was any other day I'd be excited about the drying potential.

Don't blame transport services for trying to run as long as possible.
Also don't forget that their services this morning got people who work shifts home from work safely.

Employers should not have dragged workers in with a National Red Alert in action.

Today was a dynamic situation that was very hard to predict and they did the best they could.

Passengers using their service this morning must have known it was highly likely they would not be running later that day.

I don't see how they can be blamed if their depot is now seriously damaged.

I think people just moan for the sake of it, never happy no matter what is done.

Just got a whack of a bunch of twigs and pebbles against the window there in south Dublin, I'd say you should check Met Eireann to be sure you're not just in the 'eye' of it.
