Lads - thinking of getting a drone to monitor a building site which is 1KM from my house. Is this legal? Also, there is a hill in the way. Would this work?

2.4 ghz doesn't pass through solid objects. So that's a recipe for costly repairs!

It would work if your drone were autonomonous and not dependent upon receipt of signals from the ground. Those are different drones however.

On the other hand, if you fly it vertically above, at some height it will be able to "see" over the hill, while still within direct line of sight, and inside range of your transmitter.

WiFi dongle and a few IP cameras would be easier cheaper and more reliable than a drone.

You can set up motion alerts and stream to any device no matter where you are.

Without a license you cannot fly more than 300m, and the drone needs to be within visual line of sight at all times.
