Ash butts for hurleys

    Hi all,

    I have approx 8-10 straight ash trees in a grove growing on level ground which I think would be suitable for hurley making. They have the curved grain close to the ground where the trunk meets the root. Most are approx 12-14 inches in diameter at 1.2 m high. Does anyone have an approximate value of these. I have already taken out a few by the roots without damaging the trunk or important part of the grain. It would be useful to get some idea of the price which these butts might make sold from a shed (I will cut the rest of them and bring to my shed as the site they are growing is not very accessible). I am including a pic for reference. Any other advice would also be welcome. Kilkenny, Waterford, South Tipp, South Wexford area. Thanks in advance.

    I had lots of ash a while back. Plenty would take them allright but give you next to nothing for them. I got better value by cutting them up for the fire.
