No worry of this pulling 7 people and a full boot with 1.2 auto petrol.

Ah, I'd say it'll be fine for most use with 130bhp. I have the 1.6d 115bhp and its fine. For me back seats are occasional and 2nd row are all kids.

Don't get me wrong part of me is saying fcuk it, just get the 1.6 petrol. Its a shame there are so few options with the auto. I think its a different 6 speed auto in the GT, a heavier box to deal with the extra weight of the engine. I believe an 8 speed EAT is about to be launched too!

Yes, the auto-box is slightly different.

All PSA cars come with third generation AISIN-AW TFx0 6-speed transmission. It is a very popular family of transmission, used in many cars ranging from Alfa Romeos, BMW i8 to Volvos...

1.2 petrol and 1.6 diesel come with medium torque AWF6F25 (in PSA documentatnion refered as AT6 III) - which is rated upto 300 Nm of torque. The 2.0 diesel comes with very similar AWF6F45 (AKA AM6 III) - but a 'stronger' version which is rated upto 500 Nm AFAIR. I am not sure about the 1.6 petrol, it depends on the torque it develops.

AISIN-AW has them ready for some time - AWF8F45 and AWF8F35. They are almost drop-in replacements for the 6-speed version. What's interesting, a 10-speed gearboxes (but for RWD application - where there is a bit more space for the gearbox) are ready as well (AWR10L65).

They announced an 8 speed auto transmission for the 308, but will one coming to the 5008?

I imagine so, it was on YouTube somewhere during a 5008 review that I heard of the EAT8, something like, 'It has a 6 speed Auto and will soon get an 8 speed.....'

Thanks, I just had a look around in the french forums and it looks like it's going to be mid 2019 when it's going to come to 5008.
In another note, did anyone who ordered the car already got a delivery date?

PSA does update the drive-train typically in all its products simulatanously, without really waiting for facelifts etc.

It happened with previous 5008, when it got EAT6 gearbox, BlueHDI engines etc. I can imagine when they figured out the software, EAT8 gearboxes will be rolled out to all of the cars - from 208/C3 to 508, 5008 and C4 Grand Picasso.

It really will helps with sales, as the projected CO2 emission will be down around 7%. In some markets that is a lot of tax...

Got an email yesterday from a dealer saying that the price is going up 1K in October - based on the GT Line 1.2 Auto... not sure if its 1K across the range or that particular model.

The dealers have really started to annoy me. They are pushing hard to close the sale, yet they have no concrete information for a lot of things  And now this 1k price hike? wtf!

I hear you. Little things are annoying me too, the lack of the 1.2 auto, no mettle plate on the foot rest like the LHD models, no Sat Nav option on any model bar the GT. No faux leather option on GT Line, but full Grain leather that's twice the cost. If I were buying a 3008, it would be an easier decision to go Allure, but the 5008 has a completely different front end to my mind, unlike the 3008 has more subtle differences. I know Im being pedantic, but its me that has to make the decision to fork out 40k. IMO you'd want to be nuts to buy a 5008 GT Line without seeing it, cause you just don't know what you're getting yet.

no Sat Nav option on any model bar the GT.

What?! Did a dealer tell you that? My dealer told me that they it exists in Gt-line.
Also, I expect everything from here to be in the car. If what I get doesn't match this, then I either hand it back (and yes I would have waste 6 months) or if it's not a big deal I would ask for a very generous discount.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭SmithySeller

I've been told you cant even option it. As per the PDF linked, only available on GT. Again, maybe Im being pedantic, but the whole idea of the I-Cockpit is the integration between the 8" screen and the digital dash, you don't get this with Android Auto and using Google maps.

i thought the 3d navigation was an extra on tomtom. Damn this is getting annoying.

How do they do it? They finally made a great car, but will somehow manage to ruin the experience - mess with prices, mess with options...

So I was back to the dealer and he re-confirmed to me that the GT-Line has the nav option inside and it does come in the dashboard as well. I don't know what to say.. other than that.. he better hopes that's indeed the case when the car arrives!

The 1.6 THP will break your heart... But maybe am I exaggerating? With 5 years warranty you'll get bored with the car and sell it with 'brand new timing chain'.

Out of interest would you go for the 1.6HDI ahead of the 1.6THP? Isnt that engine getting on a bit, seems like its around a long time (I suppose the Diesel is actually around as long). On the plus side, I would have thought in the bigger 5008 you might see similar mpg with this as to the 1.2, or am I talking crap?

    My preference would be 1.2.

If that is out of the question because of lack of ACC, I would go with the 1.6 BlueHDI - which is around for years and all the issues - injectors mounts and soot thickening - are under control. Unfortunately to my best knowledge the 1.6 THP is not like that and the chain tensioner is still a major issue with them.

Reliability would be my main reasoning.

Interesting stuff, I see BMW has ditched it also! One too many Timing Chain issues I suspect!!

But I thought AstraMonti had suggested back in this thread's post 350 that all is well now:

Don't quote me on anything mechanic, I am clueless, I am only repeating what I 've been reading :)
For the record, I did go with the 1.6 165 THP petrol.

Hey at least I am honest! Joking aside I spend a significant amount of time translating different French and Dutch sites to try get as much information as possible for 3008/5008. 3008 is about 18 months out now and a lot of other cars are also using the same engine and I couldn't find much wrong with that engine.

In fairness especially for the 3008 the most popular engines are the 1.2pt and the 1.6 diesel but I also found a lot happy owners with the 1.6 Petrol. There were a lot of other issues like bonnet alignment or older firmwares but not for the engines. Hopefully the older issues have been rectified. If not, you ll hear me talking about it :)

Sorry to come back at you with this AstraMonti. I test drove 3 cars at the weekend, 3008 GT Line, and two 5008 models, 1.6 auto Allure and 1.2 auto Active. No NAV in any car, you hit the button and it says to connect your phone. I then asked, and was told there is NAV, eh but you have to use your phone, but no built in NAV, GT only!

There is and they have ordered for a customer a 1.2 Auto option in GT-Line, they are 100% adamant about this, no embargo, like there was for the 3008. Bit more of a lead time though.
