Did anybody watch Cardinal? I recorded it but my mind is being twisted by David Lynch and Twin Peaks at the moment so can't really focus on anything else right now.

    Is cardinal worth watching?

Definitely worth it. It's got a definite Scandi Noir vibe to it, but is Canadian.

Another two episodes of Inspector Montalbano and then according to DigiGuide we will be getting the 8-part Swedish series Black Lake (originally released as Svartsjön).

It sounds interesting. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

It has been exactly two years since Channel 4 showed the first series of Witnesses.

The second series has been acquired by BBC4.
Paul Maisonneauve (above) has gone and is replaced by Spiral’s Audrey Fleurot.

Series 2 opens with the frozen bodies of 15 men being discovered sitting aboard an abandoned bus.

According to "The Killingtimes tv" blog both Witnesses series 2 and Spiral series 6 are expected before Christmas.

I quite liked that one, good to see BBC Four actually picking up something rather than losing it.

I really liked Paul Maisonneauve so that's a pity on the other hand - Audrey Fleurot :) It'll be a which cop is hotter competition!

That Scandinavian drama Black Lake which brian_t mentoned a few weeks ago is starting tonight at 9. The series is 8 episodes long and there will be 2 episodes shown each week.
The remote and neglected Black Lake has been closed for years when Johan (Filip Berg) invites his friends to stay there. He dreams of reopening the isolated hotel and restoring it to former glories, but what begins as a fun research trip soon takes a sinister turn as the group is gripped by a series of unexplained and disturbing events.

They soon uncover the real reason Black Lake was abandoned all those years before, and solving the mystery rapidly becomes a matter of life and death.

    Looking forward to this.

I watched this last night and very much enjoyed it. There's a nice spooky feel to things and the camera work adds to the atmosphere.

There was one bit that did bug me though which I think was from the second episode:
So the guy knocks on the caretaker's door and demands the keys for the cellar. He has seen the camera footage and what appears to be someone pulling the door closed. He is suspicious enough to go over to the caretaker guy's house who then tells him to get lost.

The next scene shows him in bed about to go asleep - that's it? He's just going to go to bed now? He even tells his girlfriend he thinks the caretaker is involved in what's going on down there.

Is he not even a bit suspicious that there could be someone trapped down in the cellar and looking for help? I found this to be hard to swallow. Surely most people in this situation would not rest until they find out whether there is actually someone down there needing help?

Other than that I liked it and look forward to the next episodes.

    Yes - to Vietnam

    Regarding Spiral 6

I think we have to wait until January 2018, I'm pretty sure Hinterland is returning before it plus the ongoing Black Lake and then Witnesses

    Black Lake finishes this weekend.

I've been too busy to watch it so I've recorded it. So I can't comment on it but it seemed to get mixed reviews over in the UK.

After that there appears to be repeats of the Swedish police drama Becks starting with the last episode of series 4 and followed by the first episode of series 5.

They last showed these in summer 2016. There are potentially a total of 9 episodes that they could show (all repeats)

I'm enjoying it so far. It's odd in as much as it's a Swedish series but some of the characters speak Swedish, some Danish and others Norwegian, and seeing as I understand Swedish to some extent it's quite unsettling:)

I'm boycotting Scandi Noir at the moment, it all feels the same to me these days

New on BBC Four next week - Concorde:A Supersonic Story 9 PM Tuesday.

Louis Theroux X 3 is on next Thursday as a tie-in for his BBC Two series which starts on Sunday.

I'm enjoying it too. I mean there are some daft moments like...
When the police turned up to the house and no one thought of asking them to investigate the strange noises that had been heard in the cellar!

But overall I've found it absorbing. Looking forward to the conclusion.

So Black Lake had its conclusion last night and I enjoyed it. There were a few moments which stretched credibility to its limit for sure, and the ending did feel a bit lacking, but overall I liked it.

They are teasing a new programme "BBC4 - Finds Inner Peace" but I can't find any information about it.

Watched the two part German production of Reformation over the last two nights! Thought it was excellent and gave me a better understanding of the origins of the reformation.

Retreat: Meditations From a Monastery starts on BBC 4 at 9pm on Tuesday 24th October.
Series which goes in search of inner peace in three Benedictine monasteries around Britain, and provides a welcome retreat from the hectic pace of our daily lives.
The monks live largely in silence, and in the tradition of Slow TV the programmes have no commentary or background music to interfere with the peace.
We follow two of the monks over the course of a typical, quiet monastic day, as they engage with carpentry and baking, religious services and moments of private prayer in the monastery gardens.
New Slow TV series include a mindfulness special that immerses viewers into the daily world of Benedictine monks and a new series of Slow natural history programmes that leverage the Natural History Unit’s unmatched expertise to present the natural world as it is lived.

Great news, didn't even realise he was doing a 3rd series, had it in my head it was finished for good after 2 series. Don't want them to do what only fools and horses did and knock them back to square one after a happy ending.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I missed that but would loved to have seen it. I find lots of good programmes fly under the radar on BBC 4. Do you have any idea if it's going to be repeated?

It's really excellent but I'm pretty sure the BBC showed an edited version of this at 1h 15m per episode. After missing a couple I got them through other means and watched the remaining episodes all 1h 45m.

It's been repeated from this coming Saturday (4th November) at 11:35pm.

Episode 2 is on the following Saturday.

Actually the BBC version seem to be about 55min long according to the times given by DigiGuide.

RTE is showing this series on Mondays at 11.35pm. Their episodes last about 70min which is probably the BBC version plus ad breaks.
