In fairness, it is, to 99% of customers whatever minor swirling is viable on a new car is the least of their concerns. I'm surprised they won that though it was probably easier to pay a couple of hundred than take whatever bad publicity would come their way.

It's an interesting scenario however. The swirls could well have been inflicted by the dealer but do they really fall under the remit of things the dealer should be held accountable for? I'm not sure and by the customer accepting delivery of the car are they not foregoing the right to complain about delivery issues of the car.

I'm not saying who's right or wrong but it's an interesting one.

It went way way beyond minor swirling. It was scratched to bits, the detailer had to get involved, produce photos, evidence of inflicted damage etc.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not particularly in favour of customers telling the dealer not to touch the car or driving it home with the wrappers still on. In most cases that’s taking the OCD / anal behaviour too far imo and it’s also a bit of a 2-fingers to the dealer - who you will do well to have a good relationship with and onside for any warranty / service concerns later.

Yeah, I think I agree. Everyone like to keep their car smart looking and I can understand people who enjoy detailing as a past time but I'd hate to go pick up my new car wrapped in cling film etc, part of getting a new car is the dealer/ handover experience etc IMO.

That said damage is damage and it need a to be sorted if it's above and beyond what you could consider the norm.

I'd also be concerned that if the dealers don't unwrap it there could be damage lurking under the covers...

I just asked that the exterior of mine not be cleaned, they removed the covers and had it in the showroom waiting for me.
It was pretty spotless anyway - they must be well-covered during transit.

They must have given it a quick wash and wipe down. They tend to be fairly filthy coming off the truck. Only the rear hatch and the roof and bonnet are (skimpily) covered. Then there'd be bits of glue residue, stickers in lots of places...

Most VW's arrive very well wrapped. This is a how a new Polo gets delivered, the Golf is similar but the vertical panels are a little more exposed.

I've never seen a Golf come off a truck as well wrapped as that! The sides are never wrapped, none that I've seen. The Polo is built in Spain I think, that may have something to do with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

The Golf usually has the boot, roof and bonnet wrapped in that stuff and the plastic hub caps over the alloys.

The body suit in the Polos is a bit science fiction looking to be fair. You'd think all that fabric and zips would do more harm than good, the same fabric is only elasticated onto a Golf.

I think new cars getting damaged in transit is a lot more common than people think. The underneath of the front bumper of my car was damaged coming off the transporter and needed repair before I collected it. It was a minor scratch so didn't make a big deal of it but wanted it sorted properly.

That NVD crowd that transport most of the cars have a full body workshop in their base that all cars go too for any touch ups, a full re-spray isn't uncommon.

We had a spate of new VW's and Audi's arriving early this year, that were scratched to ****. How they made it through dealer PDI like that, I'll never know.

We used a detailer to do our final prep, and he would point out even the most minor of issues. Managed to polish out the issues on a couple of the cars, but 3 had to go back for respray.

Story we got was that the adhesives on the plastic coatings wasn't holding like it should, so the plastic protection was lifting and flapping around in transport, which caused all the paintwork damage.

I just found out the delivery date means when it arrives at the docks and not the dealer so I have even longer to wait for my car...all these posts of cosmetic damage don't help. I'd cry if I had to wait any longer :(

What's this about brollies and cuddly toys? :D

The docks as in Dublin I assume and not Emden in Germany?!
If it's Dublin, you could have it in a matter of days. Lean on the dealer, get them to try and get NVD to get it to them asap. But worst case, it could take weeks.

Yeah docks in Dublin. He said it will take about 5 days in NVD. He said they'd push for priority but I'm not expecting it anytime soon. It will land on the 6th Friday so I'm guessing be at the dealer the following Friday, then I'm working until the following Wednesday...it would be nice i got it before then though :(

The civic is always put up against the Golf as is there is a genuine choice to be made between them. It looks ****ing ridiculous and I would barely put it in the same class as a Gti or R.

Just watched prime time and their piece on the future of electric cars. While they did say that eventually there will be an electric car to suit every drivers taste, it was kinda depressing to think of of time without GTI type cars. But it's coming alright, and what we are currently driving will become a relic in an automotive museum.

I like to think the new GTI therefore represents the high water mark for hot hatches - though I may be biased! :D

Most worrying is that there will eventually come a time in our lifetimes that these cars won't make it classic status as there will be no petrol supply to run them :(

Down in the local VW Garage with my dad today to order his new Tiguan and the salesman brought him up the back to see a few different colours.

9 different GTIs up there. A few of them PPs and a few of them Clubsports. Another three 17s GTI out the front and another non registered Clubsport in the showroom.

    Must be serious demand :pac:

So there's still a few unregistered Clubsports knocking around? Interesting... I thought they'd have all been registered by now.

My Dad is seriously considering a Tiguan too actually. He's getting one tomorrow for an extended test drive. What spec did yours go for? They're a fine looking wagon.

I spotted 5 Clubsports and 4 PPs. He said four of the Clubsports were an order by one person.

He's looking at a 2.0L DSG Highline with the R Line Interior and Exterior pack, I think it's about €46k, white or iridium grey. It has the Pro Nav as well (digital dash).

The dealer is giving him €4k more for his Mazda 6 than the Mazda dealer was against a CX5. He was going to trade his and put €10k with it and finance the rest on HP. I'm telling him to go PCP for the low interest as he'll save quite a bit over HP and pay his €15,500 (GMFV) at the end of year three or trade again.

4 Clubsports for one person?:eek:

That sounds like a lovely spec. The R-Line spec makes a lovely job of them. Indium grey is the nicest colour too imo. My lad probably won't see the value in the R-Line pack but he's likely to go Highline alright, and probably DSG too.

Yea I was shocked when he said it :pac:

I don't think there was many other options to tick to be honest. He's not upgrading the alloys because he prefers the standard ones on the Highline.

I was saying to go Highline but he said what's the point getting an automatic and not getting the R Line and leather seats!!

I bought my Golf off the same salesman a few months ago so I think he's looking after dad now. Dad is the kinda fella who wont arse around negotiating and tells the salesmen that straight out. If he likes the price you tell him on the one he wants he'll pay it, if not he'll go somewhere else.

Sounds like we have the same Dad :pac:

The tech / innovation pack is nice. Think it adds a sunroof and keyless and a couple of other things. Dad also fancies the electric tow-bar option even though he doesn't have a trailer (yet!)

Yea that one was on this as well, sunroof is really impressive. Had Lane Assist, Reversing Camera and a few other gadgets as well.

Only thing he was worried about was if his golfbag would fit in the boot!!

haha! Yeah they're a well spec'd out car. I must take a spin in this one he's getting tomorrow myself.

I'd love the 4 clubsports on my driveway even more though :D
