EU company Irish VAT number

Hi, can anyone shed some light on this? If say I have EU company to do some business in Ireland (ex. purchasing services and selling) do they need to register for Irish VAT number or is it enough to have their own? Thanks

If a company is doing business in Ireland and its turnover exceeds the registration limits in Ireland, then it must be registered for VAT in Ireland. That it is already registered in another EU jurisdiction (or even in half a dozen other EU jurisdictions) is irrelevant.

Thanks for a quick reply. Also another question: if that company got Irish vat number, do they pay vat and then apply for return, or just won't get charged?

An Irish VAT registered supplier must charge VAT to any Irish customer, unless that customer has an exemption certificate. That certificate is normally only given to exporting businesses.
