What's getting worse in society that the media isn't reporting on?

The media seems to portray the world badly that even some religious and non-religious people believe that we're at the end of times however we always hear and tend to forget that "For the majority of people on this planet, our age is the safest and most peaceful throughout history".

Watching London constantly get attacked by jihadists, North Korea and Russia trolling the US with threats of war, great political discontent in the West with Brexit/US elections, financial crises, Islamic immigration into Europe etc. on the news, makes it difficult to believe that but of course it's understandable if you consider that the media moguls are simply businesses who want to make the most profit which is easily done through exploiting fear and paranoia.

There are of people no undoubtedly living in some parts of the world today who are in worse conditions compared to their ancestors hundreds of years whereas for others people like Europeans and Americans, the opposite has happened to a great extent, life has improved.

But I've been thinking, even if life has generally gotten better, I assume that people over 50-60 can think of things in Ireland, Europe or the world that seem to be getting worse but are paid no attention to by the media. What are some of these things.

I think the US rather then Russia is doing all the trolling. The west has improved because it hasn't been bombed to pieces or suffered from voilent government over throws (largely sponsored by the West).

I think we have to take a look at ourselves as well. Do you really want to tune into the news each day to hear that a young family in Carlow have just landed their dream jobs and have cleared their mortgage before they're 40, or that the quality of life in Toronto is tremendous and just look at all of these lucky Canadians enjoying their spare time. Maybe top it all off with a package about new trade agreements that have improved the lives or every single fisherman, ever.

Maybe you would. Or maybe you'd think it was just sticking your head in the sand. I remember the Ray Darcy show used to have a 'good news day' where the Today FM newsreader would announce positive news stories from all over the country. The day it started I thought it was a great idea. The next day I turned it off.

Gambling is a problem that is eating away at society.
The media constantly push and advertise the big operators rather than highlight the huge issues they are causing.

The industry is becoming more cynical as the number of operators are being reduced.
The way the big operators actively target the vulnerable while barring anyone with half a clue of how to bet is despicable.

They don't tend to have the full slice onion rings anymore either, I loved them.

Chippers are on the decline OP - it's clearly the definitive issue of our generation. Something must be done.

Family break down . Man and woman had 2 children then marruage breaks down the. He finds a new partner and she already has children from a prev relationship and the have another child. And she ( wife no 1) finds a new man and he already has children from a prev relationship and then they also have children . So 5 sets of kids, alot of emotional baggage, alot of upheavel for the children, 5 sets of grandparents, very complicated child minding arrangements ....... assosciated with a lack of resilience in longerm relationships, multiple housing arrangements and lingering debt due to mortgages, squeezed house hold budgets due to maintainence payments going every which way.

A proportion of road deaths, especially with single male drivers, are suicide.

Not really. What I remember from the "American wakes" of my youth was young lads (the majority) going off to America and Britain, and to a smaller extent young girls. Whole families emigrating: less so.

Russia under Putin has been doing it's fair share of invading, propping up despots and bombing the tar out Syria. Not denying Western powers haven't been doing the same but there's a consensus among certain people that any criticism of Russia and Putin is down to western propaganda.

I've taken all of these and can confirm they are pretty..meh, especially the second one.

If you ever go to the US and get a legal prescription of hydrocodone a.k.a Vicodin (what Dr. House stuffed his face with all those seasons), then you'll realize how **** codeine is.

The comparison I would make would be imagine you've been hiking up the mountains for 3 days and only have had water but no food. You're given the choice between filtered sugarcane juice or a Coca Cola drink (all fizzy drinks are essentially sugar water). The latter would be more desirable physically even though they are essentially the same thing

Plus codeine has a ceiling dose due to the liver which I believe is 400mg. Taking more than 30 tablets might not make a difference.

There really isn't. Nowhere near as much as there should be. Can you imagine if mental health awareness (especially that geared towards men specifically) had as much money and awareness as breast cancer?

I specifically pick this, because I feel breast cancer awareness shows how such a campaign can work. If I'm right (someone can correct me), this was just something that wasn't discussed until there was a massive push a few years back. And now it seems the norm.

TBH, with these people, it would only matter/bother you if you go out of your way to let them. I've no idea who they are (and please don't link/tell me, because I really don't care), so they don't have any real impact on the world.

Have noticed this majorly when shopping in lidl during the week.
It's normally a few bits for dinner and then a bottle or 2 of wine. It wouldn't be on a Friday either.
