Ah, here, I give no fiddlers ****s about football, but 10 lads on a team made it so a semi final. It's not like they're ditching to play kickabout in the park!

Rescheduling it would be a bit much, that's putting at least 20 other people out, including the (at least) 5 of the team not going to the wedding, and (at least) 15 on the other team. That's before you take into account coaches, referees and linesmen, medical, and various others.

If they win, I'm sure they, and their supporters, go to their local, and have a celebration. Now that would be infinitely better craic than leaving the celebration, going to the venue (which could be anywhere in relation to the pub) and listening to a wedding band murder popular songs.

Of course, they could go, but seeing as they pulled out altogether, they made their choice.

At the end of the day, every single person has something in their lives that they'd pull out of a wedding last minute for. Be it children, family, work, sport, blah blah blah. It's the Bride and Grooms special day, it's doesn't mean it's a special day for everyone else!

I dont think the bride cares if the guests arent there but more so, that shes out of pocket to the tune of "gifts".

If my team got to a semi final or final, id miss a wedding too, at the drop of a hat. I'd try go to the afters but if the Bride was so concerned about the walking moneybags shes invited and made a fuss, I'd be tempted not to turn up at all.

They can't just reschedule a match and nobody knows what time the match is on.

Looks like it's this match (bottom). 8pm KO in Cavan while the wedding is in Kildare. I wonder if the husband is on that team as well?

The club could have asked the local County Board and opposition team for an early start, e.g. 10am.

GAA matches only run for 60 minutes at club level.

I'm assuming the wedding and the reception are happening in the same county as the match.

Everyone at the church by 1pm, if required.

But that time is already taken for the Limerick country final:-

If I were a guest, and this were the case, I'd be thinking twice about giving her a cash gift now.

    Stingy cow.

Ultimately that persons wedding is just one of probably 2 or 3 these players are going to this year.

The semi final happens just once this year.

Haha! Those guys dedicated their lives to the sport, endless hours training and playing. The may have never reached a final before. Much more important than some wedding, it's not like it's there wedding, just some friends wedding. certainly more enjoyable!

But they didn't know what date it would be, or even that they'd be playing in it.

If you sign up to a team sport and let them down on semi-final day that's also bad manners ;)

But the point is - its the WHOLE team.

I mean, if the whole team couldnt travel because of bad weather surely it would be rescheduled?

Based on the information we have it's, at most, 10 players (6 halves of couples + 4 single). Some of those not going could actually be part of the management team or even just supporters.

Eh, if they couldn't afford 130 people they shouldn't have had 130 people. It's irrelevant whether or not the people turn up, the bride and groom were willing to spend it. She mentions on the radio that they just had a baby ten weeks ago, and it's a lot of money etc. You knew you were having a baby, you knew how much money you had on hand for the wedding, and you knew what it was costing. It's three days before the wedding, the manager of the hotel also mentions on the radio that the food stock for those additional meals is already bought and on site.

Tough, pretty much. You can't count on people giving monetary gifts to finance your wedding. If you can't afford to pay for it, don't do it.

Going to a wedding is just paying 200+ Euro to watch some young buck lob a ring on some youngwan and wee bit of roast beef and kale afterwards. Maybe a slice of baked Alaska if you're lucky. It's a summons nobody wants to go to if they don't have to and it's bad form of anyone to think their wedding is of any importance to anyone outside their immediate circle.

I totally agree that they shouldn't have accepted the invite at that date. And football might be just kicking a ball around any day. A wedding can also be a total fuss over a pointless exercise.

The couple should change their date. It will affect less people. ;)

    It's not the whole team.

And what about the other team? They are ready for this match and are they supposed to re-schedule because SOME of the opposing team got invited to a wedding ?

    Then dont accept the invite.

Why? I'll go if I have nothing better to do. Don't invite me in the first place.
