    I have a fairly knackered passat at the moment with no steering wheel buttons so while I have occasionally fiddled with the volume knob to keep it in the 12 o'clock position, t's not something I'd be dogmatic about.

    How are you guys on setting the volume on your TVs to a prime number like 7 or 13 or 27? :D

    Newer VAGs done have numbers...does help with the OCD.

    I find midpoint on the red bar volume scale to be just right. This may be since I did a thing and basically straight piped my exhaust from just after the cat though. :eek:

    The Pretoria wheels. At €136 it would be a criminal offence not to spec them.
    The "tech pack" seems to come in most of them and that gives you Nav, camera, winter pack and something else I can't think of. So that too.
    Beyond that I don't think anything is "must have".

    But off the top of my head, I'd consider:

    Keyless. Used to it now and wouldn't like to be without.
    Adaptive dampers - I don't have but I think I would spec if ordering again.
    Dynaudio if you like your music but the standard Audio isn't bad at all.
    Leather - very expensive but it does lift the interior a lot. I do like the standard seats in the facelift though.
    Pro nav? Looks damn cool I must admit but hardly essential.
    Pano roof - if you like your sunroofs and a bit more light in the cabin.

    And there's dynamic light assist too. About €700? And not on the official price guide yet either I suppose.

    I'd get the tech pack, keyless entry and Pretorias. Don't know what the standard audio is like but I'd possibly get the audio upgrade.

    As nice as leather seats are, 2 grand is a lot of money for something I wouldn't need. I also hear VW leather isn't great quality, not sure if this has improved though?

    I don't see the electric driver seat as an option, does the R have this even though it doesn't have leather as standard? It forces leather on the regular Golf so I didn't get it :/

    Yes, that's the very one. It's the dynamic cornering light that is part of the standard LED headlights along with the High Beam Assist if the tech pack is ordered.

    Electric seats aren't in the official product guide but like anything else if you dig around and find the option code for it VW here should be wiling to spec it for you.
    They never were available in the pre-FL gti/d/R seats but are now afaik.
    Dynamic light assist is a very nice option especially if you do a lot of rural night time driving.

    If you do a lot of motorway driving I would say get the adaptive cruise control. I have it and use it in the m50 daily and it definitely makes the experience less stressful and on at least one occasion saved my bacon. It's the one thing that I am most impressed with, even though I didn't think I would be, if you know what I mean.

    Nah, adaptive cruise has been standard on all Golfs across the board for a few years.

    I have a question for anyone with an android and app connect. Do you have any method of automatically switching on your mobile hotspot on a Bluetooth connection? Trying it via Tasker but it's not happening.

    Just had a look at UK prices. 20 stg will get you 2015 5 door dsg with 30k miles.

    8k euro vrt. So 30k home.

    Same car spec on carzone is 35k euro.

    Very soon there will be plenty of 2014 cars hitting the market in the U.K. as they were very good value on 3 year PCP deals. I'd imagine that prices will dip as a result. The only thing is the uK cars come with 18 Cadiz alloys which look dreadful.

    Ya the Prets were (and still are a 1K option over there) and anyone leasing them generally kept the spec standard - "lease spec".

    Yeah but funnily a lot of UK spec cars seems to have DCC.

    True but even the 7.5 R can be bought new for about £30,000 which is seriously good value even if a decent spec car is about 33k.
    Mind you a BMW 140i is the same price there too.
