I watched 29 minutes of Trainwreck tonight and it was about 29 minutes too many. Couldn't get into it at all. I've seen some of Schumer's sketches before and although a few of them are actually decent, the Friday Night Lights one, for example, most of them are not to my taste, to put it nicely. The 29 minutes I watched felt like people trying to act around her "improv" and it was just awkward and not very funny. I will not give the whole film a rating, we all know how that goes down, but the bit I saw was not enough to make me ever want to see the end of it.

After I turned that off I watched Salmon Fishing in the Yemen A gentle but enjoyable tale where Ewan McGregor's fisheries expert is roped into helping a filthy rick sheik realise his dream of bringing salmon fishing to, yes, you guessed it, the Yemen. Emily Blunt is the sheik's financial advisor or fixer or something, asset manager, maybe? Anyway, most of the film is her and McGregor being their typical charming selves and although it's all a bit ridiculous and there are subplots involving a missing British soldier, an assassination attempt and Downing Street's PR manager, it was still a harmless and enjoyable watch.

    I can't wait for series 2, but if I wasn't enjoying a series ,I wouldn't watch it all.

    Finished The OA.

What a show! Probably the best Netflix original I have seen.

Depends on whether you think there's potential there for something better.

    You're joking!
The ending was a we've ran out of budget so let's just kill the main character and everything that happened wasn't real.
    Terrible stuff by Netflix.

I presume you haven't seen too much of Netflix if that's made it to the top of your list

I was enthralled by The OA.. but the end in
the cafeteria was cringey was feck
.. still looking forward to more.

Felt it was quite epic in it's storytelling to be honest.. there has been far duller Netflix originals than it. The OA felt very unique for the most part.

Off the top of my head I've watched House of Cards, Kimmy Schmidt, Orange is the New Black, Dare Devil and Stranger Things to varying degrees. No doubt you're going to tell me that isn't enough or tell me some other show I've not mentioned is a must watch.

I probably enjoyed Making A Murderer as much if not more but I'm really thinking about fiction here.

I watched Message From The King last night while doing ironing, and even in that context it was a frustrating watch. I was hoping for something more focused on the action, but (like Wild Card) this was a film that somehow thought it had a thought-provoking and nuanced narrative as opposed to a set of clichés that might be justifiable if they had been used to frame some exhilarating stunts or action sequences. It doesn't help that there are some very dodgy performances in it to boot.

I would agree with this, myself and my wife have watched it, enjoyed it reasonably well and it was refreshing
that it didn't end on a cliff hanger, although that in itself fitted in well with the overall pace and suspense level of the show

Will take it or leave it for S2, but probably will watch and see what direction it goes.

Watched Whatever Happened to Monday last night and enjoyed it. It's gotten some very mixed reviews but I think they were overly harsh. It's very much a genre piece but it seems to be getting castigated for not trying to be more intelligent than it actually is. I can understand some of the points being made in terms of the seven sisters being reduced to cliched stereotypes of different women but with a 2 hour length and a pretty convoluted plot in the mix, some of the sisters are going to end up being broad sketches rather than intimate portraits. Noomi Rapace's performance gets unfavourably compared to Tatiana Maslany's brilliant work on Orphan Black but again I think that's a tad unfair in terms of a two hour film versus a show with several seasons. Close and Dafoe are probably a bit wasted in it given their minor roles but they're always good to watch.

Like I've already said, the plot is pretty convoluted - especially when you're trying to describe to your missus what happened in the end when she fell asleep for the last 15 minutes - but most of the exposition is dealt with in a voiceover sequence at the beginning. From then on the movie cracks along at a decent pace. I saw the ending coming from about 25 minutes in but I still enjoyed the ride. I'm sure there's plot holes aplenty if you analyse it in any great depth but I kind of switched off the brain and enjoyed the action for what it was.

Finished Ozark over the weekend, I loved it . Some people have been saying it's slow going but I thought the opposite .. every episode was brilliant.
