I think I already said I prefer good honest hard football.
This wasn't legal 'play', it was gurrier like intimidation and an attempt to get another player to react before the ball was even thrown in.

As I said it was indefensible behaviour on a pitch were there where many decent honest footballers.

What was the point of Monaghan and Armagh keeping 12/13 behind the ball when 8 points down, have a go FFS. they both accepted defeat after 10/15 mins

Have to agree. There are too many tentative managers, afraid to ship a hammering.
I would rather go down to a 20 point defeat than leave imponderables on the pitch.

I think that Dublin defence is porous enough if you go at it. I counted 4 goal opportunities that Monaghan missed yesterday.
The other teams left will take a good look at that.

McManus has been getting that treatment all year

Nobody is saying that. I commented on one players performance and the usual, 'Dubs can do no wrong' defence was offered.

From the book of worn out clichés, first released in 2015 author Pat Spillane - the intervening 3 seasons would tell you not..

What's cliche about that? Monaghan had plenty of opportunities to stay in game and missed them.
Not saying they would have won. But Dublin had nothing to do yesterday really, Monaghan didn't turn up at all.

I really hate the phrase 'there was contact'. Maybe its because the soccer people use it all the time to legitimise diving and all sorts of cowardice.

Anyway Cooper accelerated towards McManus looking for him and he brushed him off. Take away the rolling around on the ground and there's absolutely nothing in it.

I'd book Cooper if i was in charge.

    r7GlgD8m.jpg

Here's Cooper getting an elbow in the head, so I was wrong, wasn't just the arm. Still think Cooper made more of it than he should have, but I'd probably be on the ground too if I got an elbow in the head.

Also, just so we're clear, you'd ignore a player that commits a foul, then ignores your whistle, picks up the ball and runs towards goal, kicks the ball away (thus preventing play from restarting quickly), and when another player goes over to stop him, you'd book the player that ended up on the ground? In my opinion, you'd be a terrible referee.

Goes over to stop him doing what?? The ball was well gone when he arrived looking for trouble

Getting properly called on it. Half an hour late and there was no elbow, who isn't gonna react like that with a fella coming in for your neck long after ball is gone.

There is robust play and honest play, and that wasn't either from Cooper again.

And before the usual defenders start, Monaghan can be just as guilty of it.
It is whether you are willing to call it out if it is your fella at it or not.

Cooper is one of those you would just like forward to stretch him before the ball is thrown in. Acting the bollix before the ball is thrown in just lay him out.
And the way he went down after the clash with McManus. If an u 12 went down like that you would be embarrassed.

when has hitting lads off the ball and pulling and dragging been part of the game?
players do this because they get away with it.
a decent referee and umpires would be cutting out this messing after 10 minutes of a game

If Cooper was yellow carded for it before the game started he wouldn't be long getting out of it and would Gavin something to think about. That is not football and its part of the reason the game is really in the gutter. A fantastic Dublin team but there is a nastiness to them not a hardness. There is a difference. Could you imagine a defender in soccer carrying on like Cooper or a hurler dropping the hurl to go bolloxing like him ???

As I said yday during Tyrone Armagh game if more refs did what David Goigh does and umpires were not completely useless it would cut all this out.
Interestingly David Gough took a lot of stick after Connacht final for whistling for off the ball incidents...........he is one of if not the only ref who seems to blow for these incidents consistently. It helps that he is able to keep up with play !

A guy in front of me was filming the sheer aggression of the pre-match stuff. Hopefully it will surface online.

I agree, match officials are too cowed to do anything about it. A concerted simple effort would stamp it out quickly. You just wouldn't pick the likes of Cooper if he kept costing you.

How do you think Dublin played yesterday, impressed?

Just wanted to mention that he Armagh support again yesterday.

Last day they were dancing in the street after beating Kildare.

They stayed to the end and cheared every score they got even the last couple when it was all over. The thanks they gave the team at the end was great too. Lots of colour and very good support, don't know if anyone else picked up on it but it's rare to see supporters thank team after such a defeat.

Dunno Stoner, we came in at halftime in A-T game and they were leaving in droves then, so much so that it was remarked on in the queue by a few people.

So so. Can play much better but the antics of Cooper were cringe. Missed some easy scores and kettle Monahan in handy enough on a couple of occasions.

He got there maybe two seconds after McManus had kicked the ball. He put two hands on his chest, grabbed McManus's shirt, ended up getting clipped with an elbow.

If Cooper went over, pushed McManus, and McManus pushed back, no one would be having this conversation. It wouldn't register anywhere. Instead, McManus pushed back in an awkward way, managing to clip Cooper with an elbow. I don't know if it was so bad that Cooper needed to go to ground, but I do know that getting clipped on the head can be quite painful.

Hopefully it did hurt and he wont be in a rush to go in late the next time

If by "awkwardly" you mean he swung at him then I'd agree

those Monaghan lads are fierce physically uncoordinated for top level athletes, all that swinging when they mean to push :D

The elbow went clean over the top of his head. There was no intent to hit him with it, just an instinctive avoidance of a late late tackle.

I NEVER understand why people show still frames of an incident when a video is easily available
A still frame can often be very misrepresentative of the situation
But I guess that's often the aim

I've put up the video and a still frame, and the only reason I put up a still frame is because people are still saying that there was no contact and that it was a dive.

I also said that there was no intent on the part of McManus, it was just awkward.

I've also said Cooper made more of it than he should have. I wouldn't class it as a dive, but he certainly made it more dramatic than it needed to be.

Still frame would also suggest Cooper punching the lower stomach.

Classic description of eh...eh... eh...a dive!

*But of course some find it difficult to call a spade a spade.

BTW, the elbow is moving away from Cooper's head if you look at video..never having made contact.

    Ah right...the 'crusade' sthick now.

I called out a player in the game yesterday. No crusade, just highlighting an appalling negative little bollix who let down his team.

And the video would show that he's got a grip on the top of McManus's jersey, and that his arm goes down because he's knocked off balance.

McManus's arm comes across the top of Coopers head, with the elbow hitting Cooper on the upper/back section of his head. Even the commentator says it. You can call it a dive if you want, but if I got an elbow to the head, I'd probably drop to the ground to protect myself as well, that would be my instinct. The rolling around on the ground is excessive, but even without that, it was still a clear yellow for McManus.
