Obertan - 3mn signing with 6 starts and 8 subs appearances.
Diouf - 1.5mn signing with 3 starts and 9 subs appearances.
Owen - free transfer largely on a "pay as you play" deal as a backup with 18 starts and 26 subs appearances.

That's in all competitions too, a chunk of each players appearances being in the Carling Cup.

Can't wait to hear how Neymar is a declining player and how a certain someone "knew all along" that it was the right time to get rid of him for the betterment of Barcelona, though! :pac:

Ah its more hedging his bets. Its the "inferior league" line thats being used. He'll be careful not to say Neymar is declining, but he will write off every goal/performance as only happening because its an "easy" league.

Unless Neymar takes a small bit to adjust to the team or has a month or two out of form, then we'll see the narrative change as per usual, disregarding all that was said beforehand.

Do I think Neymar is declining? No. But he's chosen the easy option. Do I think moving to Paris where he will be more powerful than any coach or teammate is conducive to Neymar ever achieving his potential? Absolutely not. He will go off the rails without ever getting close to the level that say Ronaldinho reached before his partyboy lifestyle caught up with him.

When he suggested Mame Diouf as a replacement for Gary Neville I had suspicions. Diouf and Obertan were signed as prospects and didnt work out. Similar to Barca who signed Kerrison, Affelay as prospects who didnt work out.

Barca also signed the likes of Villa and Sanchez in that time. For Man Utd it was Valencia, Obertan, Diouf and Owen and a lot of the Ronaldo money going to the Glazers.

Barca also signed Dimitro Chigrinski, Alexander Hleb, Henrique...

Do you think cherry picking two successful Barca transfers and comparing them to poorer signings actually shows anything besides reflecting on you? United also signed good players in the same period you choose to ignore. Like you ignore the abject Barca failures :pac:

I think Rooney was Ronaldo's replacement. Valencia than replaced Rooney in a support role. It wasn't like for like but United changed their system after and Rooney was much more prolific after Ronaldo left.

Valencia was great in the few seasons after Ronaldo left. Just because he became a cowardly player who slowly retreated into RB doesn't mean he wasn't a top quality winger for 2-3 seasons. Nani was there as well and tore it up for a couple of seasons. Rooney was at the level Neymar/Suarez are at now and there was still a world class defence.

Fergie took his eye off the ball in midfield but at that time still had Carrick, Scholes, a highly rated Anderson, Fletcher and a couple more around the squad to play there. They were still probably the 2nd best team in Europe the couple of seasons after Ronaldo left. The decline started with not buying replacements for the aging defenders and sub standard midfield in 2012-13, not giving Pogba a chance and calling Scholes back as a stop gap.

Tbf this isnt the place to discuss United but in general trying to write of a entire clubs transfer policy by cherry picking a few of the flops as evidence is so dense.

All clubs sign good players, all clubs sign bad players, all clubs sign youngsters who dont develop.

The 2 seasons after Ronaldo left they got further than Real in both. One they reached the final, the other they should have reached at least the semi but for that ridiculous Nani sending off.

They reached another final then and we all know that they were beaten by arguably one of the best assembled team's in football history in both finals, convincingly but hardly embarrassing to lose to that lot.

After that the old guard....Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Scholes all started to part way, Giggs and Rooney declining, Berbatov heading off, Fergus on stopped building for the future and then retiring leaving the club in a bit of a mess. They still reached the Quarter finals with Moyes (did they lose to Madrid?)

Ronaldos loss was huge but wasn't close to the main reason for the teams decline.

Personally I blame Ferguson for a lot. There, I said it.

No way are Spurs or Liverpool interested in Kondogbia? He is widely regarded as an embarrassment for Inter in Serie A, a woeful player totally out of his depth at that level. Would be stunned if he signed for any CL or even EL level team.
